  • can you give me a free phone?

Ok, couple weeks ago this dude calls in saying that he wants to know if we can replace the phone that was lost in the mail.
sc:well I went into the office and bought the phone
me: I thought you said it was lost in the mail
sc:Oh it was I was sending it to my relative overseas so he could have it when he comes home(nice gesture). The problem is the post office can't track it can you replace it for free along with the accessories I bought?
me:I'm sorry sir, did you just say you mailed it over seas?
sc:yeah and the purchase was over 200 dollars but he got a new phone when he came back. Are you going to replace it.
me:Was the phone insured when you mailed it?
    sc:Oh yeah I did
me:then you need to take this up with the post office
sc:yeah but they said they can't track it and I want to know will you give me a credit?
me:no sir we did not mail you the phone and you took the liablity to send it over seas, you put insurance on it take it up with the post office?
schad not insurance by the way on the phone through us) so your saying you won't do anything?
    me:no I'm saying we can't do anything
sc:but I was just trying to get him a phone
me:well this is out of our hands sir
he asked for a credit one more time before saying he would go to the post office.

What an idiot. Why not just wait until your relative arrives locally to hand them the phone. Or, if they're not close, send the phone via Registered Mail.

My bet ... he lost it. Never mailed it.

The messed up thing is that he paid full price for the phone instead of waiting for him to come home and just renew.

        Odd question but,

If he mailed the phone overseas, how's the recipient going to charge it? Surely the plugs are different?

There are converters for plugs; either the SC could have sent some (though who knows if it would occur to him) or the relative could buy it wherever he/she is. Here it can run $12-$18. Converters are very simple.

This falls under the universal "I'm stupid, will you cover that?" response.

No, I'm sorry, but stupid isn't covered with the warranty.
Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?

I'm going to bet he lost the phone and/or never mailed it.
