  • Damn pervert customers.

We carrry some books with naked children teenage girls (Photographers Jock Sturges and David Haimilton). Strictly speaking they aren't porn. The have nothing you wouldn't see at a family nude beach (Well maybe that's not so much the case with Hamilton). But since they can't go to a local porn shop to get real kiddy porn they make due with this.

It's bad enough that they exist but must they try to decieve me as to what they are after. They will have me pull out a bunch of other photography books from the case and once they think they have fooled me into thinking that they are photography buffs they ask me to pull out the books mentioned above. They thumb through them quickly and agree to buy them.

ME {in my head}: I'm on to you you perv. hopefully this will give you enough stroke material to stay away from actual little girls.

I just wish they wouldn't waste my time.

People practicing every other kink (*gay, feet, bdsm, pissing, wrestling...) just ask for what they want, make a decision, pay if they want something, and go.

*At some time or another we've had high quality photography books of all these.

I'd have to start toying with them...and seeing if they were registered sex offenders!

OOOH...yeah, that's what I'd do...if they paid with a credit card, you could get their name and see if they are sex offenders...they can't have that type of stuff! No matter how innocent in nature it is.

Mark Healey: "Very good, sir, may I have your credit card? <starts running card and bagging things up> These Jock Sturges and David Hamilton photography books really must be something. You would not believe how often probation and parole officers want to view our security tapes to see who buys these particular books. Then they want to see the tapes of our parking lot cameras - did you know they can see all the license plates of the cars out there? Sometimes it's just the police who want to see the tapes. We have made so many copies of our tapes for them. Now just a moment while I log in when these were sold and I will have your receipt ready.

Oh, you don't want them afterall?"

When I worked in a bookstore this kind of thing got on my nerves too. What I hated most of all though were the guys -- and they were always guys -- who would take a book, say a Penthouse letters collection or some big photography book such as Men Without Ties, and wander all over the store with it all stealthy-like. If they caught wind of an employee nearby, and there usually was someone around as we weren't allowed to be idle and had to be shelving or cleaning at all times, they'd dump the book in whatever section they happened to be in and flee like startled deer.

Nothing puts a bookseller in a killing rage faster than finding a photo-illustrated Kama Sutra in the kids section, or The Joy of Gay Sex among the college prep guides.

I don't go for that big brother stuff. We don't keep records of what people buy (truth be told, It's more out of laziness), but I'm sure that if we did, the boss would have pulled a Tattered Cover when the Patriot act was passed.

Like I said, it's better that the spank to pictures than go after real kids. I just wish they wouldn't waste my time trying to hide what they're after.

There's such a thing as a 'family' nude beach?? Um, eeww? Does anyone else see this as being really wrong? I didn't know such a thing existed, or that familys would want to go on a naked outing to the beach
I ride the time, it unfolds a new day,
another time, this world would fade away

Yes, they exist, although mostly outside the US. As far as I know, in many European countries beaches in general are completely clothing-optional. Views about sex and nudity are far less conservative there.

I've known some nudist families and both the parents and the kids seemed particularly well adjusted. Not sure I'd advise it for everyone, but overall, nudist areas are considerably less geared towards sex than regular beaches.

I had this JUST yesterday! Kicked the guy out after a half hour of being too busy at the till to get to him, he gives me this "rabbit in the headlights" look and actually asks me WHY I'm asking him to leave!! Um...ok, well, lesse here, A) standing in the kids dept. reading How To Be A Sex God is NOT cool on a saturday afternoon on my shop floor, and B) You're creeping out the PAYING customers!

What I really can't understand is why management decided to make us stock this stuff so close to the kids dept anyway, but that's another rant!

I don't know about any of you but I'd prefer not to see my parents naked. Creeps me out. I wouldn't want my knicknacks exposed to them either... YUCKO.

Oh, yeah, we get this all the time. It is so common to find a sex book anywhere BUT in the Sexuality section. I call them Easter Eggs, because it's almost like the customers hide them around the store so we can enjoy the fun of looking for them, and every night it's "Look, I found another Easter Egg" or three. And this includes photography books on how to take "glamour/nude photographs" or graphic software books on creating the female form, or anything else that might have a picture of boobies!

The other thing we get with a lot of the little pocket sized ones is the people who want to steal it rather than pay for it (whether because theiy're cheap or terrified that someone will have to see them with it to ring them out, I don't know), but they are afraid of the alarm going off. So, they'll rip off the barcode (thinking that's what sets the alarm off), or rip out all the pages, leaving the binding behind, or take of the dust jacket and steal the rest, or whatever.

The other TOTALLY disgusting thing is that they'll take the mens magazines into the bathroom and shut them up in the baby changing station and there they are at the end of the night. I am SO not touching those things! Ew, that reminds me. Once when I was recovering the magazine area, I was rearranging one and it felt all lumpy. So I pulled it out to see if it was a wad of those subscription cards, or the plastic that some of them are wrapped in, or whatever, stuck inside. Nope. Condom.

Also, it totally bugs me when someone comes up to buy a sex book and they have to give me this long drawn out excuse how it's a bridal shower/bachelorette party/bachelor party/gag/whatever gift. Why would I care? You don't owe me an excuse. It would be so refreshing if someone came up and said "My husband is boring in bed and I hope this'll help."

Nope. Why? The human body is some kind of perverted and evil thing that children should be shielded from?

I think it's completely inappropriate to expose yourself to children (well, to anyone) in, say, the supermarket. But it's a nude beach. The parents know what they're letting Sally and Johnny in for, and it's a good opportunity to discuss bits and shapes and things. (Er, that's shapes as in body shapes, not shapes OF bits!!)

Assuming these have some legitimate art purpose, I wonder how uncomfortable it is for the legitimate art lover to buy these books? I'd certainly hate to go get something associated with illegal sexual deviance. I bet half the people looking shift while buying it are legit, they just can't buy it with a straight face because they know what you'll be thinking anyway.

So you would take your kid down to the beach and let them run around nude and be totally at ease with this, even with today's society having pedophiles around?
