Had a couple tonight.
Former employee wants an employee rate room. She quit about a year ago. She is drunk because there is a wedding reception in the banquet area. Luckily, I worked with her. She demands a cheap rate. I ask her what kinda discount she was thinking. She says she wants the employee rate. I tell her I can’t do that. She asks why. I simply tell her that she doesn’t work here anymore, that is why. She leaves, never asks about it for the rest of the night.
Guy drives in on a bike. It’s 230am. We are not a cheapo hotel. He asks for a room, our day rate (anytime after like 1am I consider a day stay room, and they will get a day stay rate, I am even willing to extend their check-out times past noon). I tell him it’s 79+tax.
SC: Could I check in at 7 or 8 am?
Me: Oh yeah, but you will be charged the same day stay rate. Checkout time is usually noon.
SC: Well, I was wondering if I could check in at 7 or 8 and checkout tonight.
Me: Sure, but you would be charged two rates. The day rate plus the night rate.
SC: You don’t understand what I am saying…
Me: Yes, I do. You want to check in now or at 7 or 8am and stay until like 8pm tonight.
SC: …right.
Me: Yeah we would have to charge you a night rate on top of the day stay rate.
SC: Why?
Me: Because if you check out at 8pm at night, we can’t re-sell the room. We do not have 24-hr housekeeping. (we would technically “lose” a nightly room rate)
SC: uh okay well other hotels don’t have a problem with that.
SC: Yeah…I am sure sorry about that. (Like I can change how our hotel works just for him. The guy was a bit odd anyway.)
CB: college boy SC, been drinking I had had a “short convo” with him in the lobby cuz he asked me what the people in the pool were all about & I had responded with, “Not a clue, I didn’t interview them on their way in.” (trying to be friendly)
Me: *phone rings* Front Desk
CB: Hi uh we need a wakeup call, (to friend) what time Rich? 10? Yeah okay 10am.
Me: Okay, all set.
CB: Oh…and uh something else.
Me: Okay
CB: We were wondering if we could send you a text.
Me: No, I don’t think that would be good.
CB: We can’t just send you a text?
Me: No, I am at work & like to keep personal things out of work. Sorry.
CB: Okay, well if you won’t accept our text I guess all we need is the wakeup call.
Me: Okay. That’s set for ya. Bye.
At least they weren’t old men, like what usually hits on me. I prefer to attempt to stay highly on a professional friendly level with guests. Tried the dating guests role 6 years ago when I started…bad idea!
