A lady came in today. Rag-tag, looked like she had fun at the Goodwill clothing blowout clearance. Normally, I really don't judge based on that, but the following conversation took place...

"I'd just like to let you KNOW that you're scamming all these people in here!"

I look up from my paperwork.

    "I'm sorry, we're what?"

"YOU'RE CHARGING $30 FOR THESE BLINDS! EVERY OTHER PLACE HAS THEM FOR $10. YOU'RE SCAMMING PEOPLE OUT OF MONEY BECAUSE THEY'RE A NEW PRODUCT AND THEY DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER!" She is screaming. I am serious. Screaming over blinds.

She throws down these pieces of paper. They're printouts of price comparisons from the internet. I look at them, yes, they are the same kind of product, but it's a completely different brand.

"Ma'am, these are store brands, they run much cheaper than name brands. The blinds we carry are *insert name brand here*. If you'd like to return it, I can refund you if you want."

"NO! THEY'RE THE SAME BLINDS! YOU'RE RIPPING PEOPLE OFF! And you know what?" (Her voice got dangerously quiet) "I just wanted to let you know because I swear I'm going to sue your company for RIPPING PEOPLE OFF. I am going to call your corporate headquarters as soon as possible! I want their number right now!"

"Okay. (I write down the number.) They appreciate all feedback."

Without another word, she marches away.

NOT FIVE MINUTES LATER, she comes back.

"I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY RUDE YOU DID NOT CALL CORPORATE FOR ME. HOW DARE YOU! THIS IS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!"

My co-worker, also a sup, who had witnessed the prior incident, hops in.

"Ma'am, you asked for the number, which we gave you. You did not ask us to call for you. Normally, we would had, but the corporate call office is closed on Sundays."

During this exchange, I pull up her account and print the info out. Somehow, I knew it'd be handy...

"Well, I've told all these people in here what bad service you give! I'm going to go back to those blinds and put up a sign that you're cheating people out of money for them!"

"Ma'am, if you like, we can get a manager for you.

She walks away again, without another word, like a pissed teenager that won't speak to their parents, out of the building.

Ten minutes later, I'm helping another person, I see her march back into the building. I call up front and warn my co-worker she's coming back and heading her way.

I eventually get a call back from the MOD, asking if I could please give him that info I printed, which I did, gladly.

I didn't get to witness this, but apparently, she started going off on the front end about the blinds again and started threatening to picket and sue us. She started going from line to line bothering customers about this, and the MOD had to get her to stop. He pulled her into the office, showed her the difference between the blinds, then escorted her out of the building.

The rest of the night, at a random moment, any of us would scream, "These blinds are expensive, I'll SUE!" to crack all the other employees up.

The woman must not have much in the way of a life if she gets that upset over something so minor. Don't you wish the price of blinds was all YOU had to worry about?

A coworker just informed me that a lot of his former coworkers (night crew, work from 2am to 10am) had thought she looked familiar...

According to them, this woman used to come to the back door and hit the buzzer, trying to get in the employee door. She'd do this SEVERAL HOURS before we opened. When she kept doing it, and a manager told her she couldn't do that, the door was just for employees to get in to work, she had flipped on them, screaming that she "paid for her membership" and we were "stealing her membership dues" by not letting her shop, and started going sue-happy again.

So, yeah, I think she's a elephant short of an Ark.

Shoulda kicked her off the property the second time she came back. The fact it happened a third time was your own fault.

CRAZY! You said she paid membership so I'm assuming you work at some sort of Costco or Sams - something similar - I'd say if she keeps that crap up - revoke her membership! Then ban her from the property. It costs more money to keep the crazy customers than to lose them...

I love how I keep reading people on this board saying things like that. "You didn't throw them out, your fault it happened"

It sounds like this woman is off her rocker a bit, but otherwise harmless, and the employees were more amused/annoyed than anything.

Unless a customer becomes threatening or belligerent you should try to work around them, not say "Get out and stay out"

I don't know. If they are not belligerent or threatening but making a scene nonetheless - such as picketing, screaming, going up to other customers with their outrageous claims - I think they should be tossed regardless. Disturbing the peace comes to mind. Just my thought on the matter.

After all those posts, that SC really must be a player short of a football team. I'd ban her and revoke her membership after all the crazy stunts she's done if I were management.

Believe me, it'd be great if we could just ban her but:

A: She's not physically harming people or property

B: She's not harassing others to a point of banning (i.e. excessive swearing at employee/customer, violating personal space)

All she's doing is ranting and making herself look even crazier than her rainbow knit hat did. A quick escort from the store is all that we can do at that level (even though I love a good banning).

It's no one's fault that she kept returning. How many countless stories do we have on this site of customers who have been kicked out, even banned from returning, and yet, some of them still won't give up?

True, (that's where I was kind of going with belligerent, as you've gone so far that you're doing that kind of thing) but as far as picketing is concerned could you legally kick someone out for picketing since it is a legal (in the US anyway) form of protest?

Once, when I worked for a certain cruise line (huge, trying to corner the market), I had an irate guest who claimed she was a lawyer threaten to sue me (personally)over the baked alaska.
