  • Thriller/religion...new category?!

Regardless of your views on Dan Brown and his assorted "novels", I'm sure everyone would agree that he is in fact FICTION no ? This exchnage actually left me blinking and speechless...

Dimbulb : You haven't got any dan brown have you...

Me, assuming this was a question even tho it wasn't actually phrased as one : Yes, we've got a few here *shows dimbulb to the thriller section and points out titles*

Dimbulb : OH! It's in THRILLER! I assumed it'd be in religion! How silly that you keep it in thriller!

    Me :

She spent the rest of the time in the shop wandering about and muttering about how it should be in religion!

I give up...there is no hope anymore

Well since it does mention religion....

I dunno, every place can shelve the way they want as far as I'm concerned. As long as I can find it, or ask someone where it is.

Star Trek mentions some scientific fact occasionally...

Should it go in the science section?

Very true. I don't think Dan Brown's stuff should be in religion either mind you, I'm just saying I can see why someone might think it.

Star Trek is in the Science Fiction section for that very reason. It is fiction and is related to science.

Are those the "Left Behind" series books? Those suckers seem like they'd fit about anywhere. But thriller and religion are the top picks, I suppose.

If you REALLY wanted to tick some people off, put them in science fiction and put the Star Trek books in religion.

If you judge by number of "worshippers", I sometimes almost think the Trekkies have an edge.

A co-worker was once chatting with a customer about all the merchandise stowed atop our gondolas. We were stocked up for the holidays and space was at a premium, so newly arriving products were upstocked wherever we could find room. My co-worker joked that he needed a teleporter to move things around. The customer stared at him and said coldly, "You mean a transporter."

To my knowledge, Dan Brown has written 4 Novels. Deception Point, Digital Fortress, Angels & Demons, and Davinci Code. While 2, (Angels & Demons and Davinci Code), make some reference to religion, they are definately not religious. Most of the reasons that religion is mentioned is to bring up some archaic belief and to discredit it. However, all of his books are very much suspense/thriller/mystery.

Just my 0.02, I am a Dan Brown fan, and I am VERY tired of listening to people try to tell me what his books about. I have read them all, and I really feel sorry for anyone who has to work in a bookstore and has to deal with this level of ignorance on a regular basis. I really do think that Davinci Code's super hype and popularity may end up hurting him in the future.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.

While Davinci Code most definitely should be classified under Thriller, although it is a very "religious" book. The whole plot lined is intertwined with trying to find the Holy Grail(whatever it might be*speculation*). If it were a book that was written about the Holy Grail what it might be, where it is, etc... It should be considered, however, a thriller because it is the fictional account of what happens to a man as he attempts to find the truth behind what is, and where the Holy Grail is.

Short stories and poetry in bathroom, novels in bedroom.... Unless you read in the tub then bring a novel.

I'd put it in the Mystery section.

My aunt just read the book and acts as if it's all true. She doesnt seem to believe me that the story was based on a hoax.

Only if your bathroom has enough room for a bookcase, which sadly mine doesn't.

So I'm stuck with either bedroom reading or office reading. Either way, it's all good.
