Like, you know, I myself am guilty of peppering my conversation with a lot of "umms", "likes" and "you knows".

As an aside, I once had a biology professor in college who used the word "class" as a filler word, the same way I say "like" or "you know". So he would be lecturing us and be saying "Okay class, turn to page 17 class, one more thing class" and so on.

Me and the guy sitting in front of me took to making tick marks in our notebooks every time he said the word "class." It helped keep me awake in class. Then at the end of the period we would divide the number of "classes" by the number of minutes in the period to come up with the "classes per minute."

    Fun times. Like, you know.

I'm Canadian, and I don't know ANYONE who uses "you know" or "eh" excessively.
I do know alot of people that say "like" alot, but I think that's pretty popular elsewhere too.
That "you know" guy would drive me crazy though! Once in a while is okay, but that many times per minute is just insane.
