Good to see there's a place I can rant about this sort of thing. As a newcomer to Customers Suck!, I'd like to start with a story from a place I used to work at with my sister.
My sister used to own a small retail shop that carried a lot of different items, including concrete statuary. We had, for a very long time, a small replica of The Thinker for sale. It was a small enough shop that I was always there by myself for the day. One day I had two women come in and one of them wanted to buy the statue, but wanted it marked down because "the bottom's all scratched up". The damage wasn't really that bad and I explained that I could give her 20% off for damaged merchandise.
Well. That just wasn't going to do now, was it? So began fifteen minutes of unmitigated hell.
The woman immediately got into bitchy customer mode and told me that I should be giving her more off for damaged goods, demanding me to call the manager, who was my sister, after I told her I might be able to give her 40% off. I called, had my sister pissed off at me and was told to give her the 40%. She then got really asshole-ish when she discovered we did not keep the GIANT WOODEN PALLETS these damn things come on because the storage area was roughly the size of a water heater. She then demands 60, read it, 60% OFF THE DAMN STATUE, because all we had was a box and paper to wrap it up in. I wrap this thing best as I can in the brown packing paper, then this bitch starts grabbing handfuls of the tissue paper we use for the glassware and cramming in the box while making remarks about the poor way we package things to go. I actually had to pull the handfuls of tissue paper out of her hands and put it down. I didn't mark it down past 40% and she stalked out of the store with the statue and the other woman following her out an apologizing.
I think about it now and the pallet thing really did not make any sense. They were walking, for starters, like everyone else that came into the store that day. The pallets would have been large enough to need a forklift.
I have never been made to feel so unmitigatedly shitty since that incident.
