  • Not sucky but confusing (do not want to do something they did)

    Yesterday my company had a person come to the website, find the registration button, answer a question (to see if they're a business or individual), fill out the entire registration form (completely too -- they answered everything) and submitted it -- all while knowing it wasn't required.

    1 minute after submitting the registration form I got this message:
    I do not want to register. thank you {their name}
    {entire content of the registration confirmation e-mail at the bottom}

    Now other than being a tad bit confused "I do not want to register" yet they managed to click the register, answer the question, fill out the form and click submit -- sure seems like they wanted to register..... but I replied:
    I’m assuming you mean you want to unregister? I haven’t checked the database yet, but if you’ve made any posts or anything on the site they will be deleted as well.

    Although we don’t sell, use or even contact registered users unless they ask to be, just so you know if that’s why you’re wanting to unregister.

    {my contact info}

    And to that I got.....
    thank you, i do not want to sign up. have a nice day {name}

    I'm still trying to figure that one out.... the person said again that they do not want to sign up -- despite having signed up.... I deleted their registration, but it's just a bit confusing as to why they phrased it the way they did.

    Have others had similar things of people saying they didn't want to sign up - after they had intentionally done so?

    Maybe they think it's required, for some strange reason.

    Who's knows? It's usually best to assume the user is a complete and total idiot, who will undoubtedly screw up everything.

    Seriously. It makes things so much easier down the road, especially in designing software.

      lol -- yep, that's why the site db/etc is all being redesigned for "version 2.0" (AJAX and all that "neat" stuff for some things). Although we're also going to have it not require javascript too just in case, but warn people if not using it.
      I got tired having to enter things for people because selecting things from drop down boxes and pasting text was too complicated (basically think of posting here just with two extra guided steps).
