since I got asked what a Funicular is, here's a few photos or links to them.

      Different variation, but same principle.
Hehe around here, we have this: http://incline.pghfree.net/

That's the Duquesne ("Du Cane") Incline. However, if you call it a "funicular" people here will look at you like you have 3 heads

The only place I know of how has a shopping buggy escalator is the 2-story Target in Springfield Mall (Springfield, VA). I was amazed when I first saw it and prolly got the "deer-in-the-headlights" look. I've never used it before, but I want to!

And at 33 y.o. (soon to be 34), I've still got a phobia of going on escalators. I'm especially phobic at using the down escalator. I have no clue why, I have mini panic attacks. It's not fun, so I take the elevator when I can.

I used to have a phobia of escalators until age 9 or so when we went to London. In the Oxford Circus tube station, the only way to exit was via the (insanely long) escalator and my mom refused to carry me.

Go figure, six months later I was being a little and trying to go up the down escalators at the science museum (that ended damn quick when I lost a shoelace--if it hadn't been so worn that it broke I'd have been in serious trouble).

For some reason this thread has remind me of an SNL skit and it's been a few years ago when it was down. Anyway I think it was when Ben Affleck was hosting and if I remember it was after he broken up with Jennifer Lopez. Well, the skit takes place in the mall and it's shows people going down the escalators. The escalator breaks down and nobody knew what to do. They try to figure out how to get off of it and well, they eventually did but now how you think .
