Moon pie?! What a time to be alive!
I had no idea there was more than one kind of hot dog bun. It seems to me the ones served in New York City are the same style as those in Southern Ontario, which are the kind I'm used to. I've been to both NYC and Toronto and aside from the fact Toronto vendors grill their dogs instead of steaming them, the buns look the same.

Its a New England oddity, buns are identical everywhere else but there as far as I know, kinda interesting. I miss franks with the skin (casing) on them, the one's that go crunch when you bite into them. And Best brand franks, great tasting, and fairly cheap, we don't have anything like either of them out here.Seph

and damn its been a while since I had moonpies and rc cola (having a few relatives in the south has its advantages) thankfully I can get the rc cola half of the combo up in New York, not the moonpies though, which I belive come covered in chocolate, orange or bannana

Wow this western girl has never seen buns cut on top. Very interesting.
I remember when I worked in downtown Santa Fe I used to watch the tourists with great mirth. They would go into the Five N Dime and order Frito Pies at the snack counter because the Five N Dime is famous for it's Frito Pies, the ultimate Southwestern street food, and they had read about it in some snooty magazine.
Many of the richer tourists would throw fits when it was served to them in a cut-open mini frito bag with a spork. Used to happen almost weekly.Because as we all know, on the Internet all men are men, all women are men and all children are FBI agents.

In terms of regional foods, I learned a lot when I moved to Chicago. People get very uppity about the RIGHT way to eat a hot dog around here. Also, Italian beef is all the rage here and I had never seen that before (and I only came from Indianapolis, a few hours south!)
I once had a waitress argue heatedly with me when I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich without onions. She was offended. She was giving me the "Well it is a Philly without the onions!" bit. She relented right before I said something that would have guaranteed a booger in my sandwich.
And never EVER argue with a Texan as to the proper contents of chilli.Hmm...more zombies than usual...
