It's been well over 10 years since I worked retail(thank $deity) but I remember one year after the 'gypsies' came thru and managed to snag a wad of cash out of one girls til. Some LP manager came in from the home office and told us flat out to slam the drawer on anyone who reached for it. "I would rather the drawer be over by a couple of fingers."
Of course nowadays you'd get sued no matter how guilty the thief is or how much evidence you have against him.
