More telephone woes in the library.
We have too many people who call who we imagine must spend the hours we are not open making up questions.
This one woman (let's call her Jen) calls a lot. She wants addresses, phone and fax of U.S. Congresspeople, add, ph, and fx of celebrities, add. ph and fx of businesses, and other things. Today she called wanting the address, ph and fx of the archbishop of Paris and archbishop of France. *sigh* Honestly, I don't know what she does with the info., but I wouldn't be surprised if it was to harrass these people. I use google only. We might have a directory of the diff. Roman Catholic dioceses in the world, but I'm not going out of my way to find it. Now I find the Archdiocese of Paris, but in Wikipedia. It doesn't have it's own webpage. So I only give her the info. on Wikipedia. I also explain that the archbishop of Paris is also head of the Catholic Church in Paris. Then she asks some question that I couldn't understand. About the street that the Archdiocese is at. I tried to get her to explain it in other ways, but she made no sense. I told her the only address for the Archdiocese was the address I gave her. She thanked me but didn't seem pleased.
Then she calls back asking for the toll free number for JP Morgan Chase. I used one database that would give me the info., but it didn't give a toll free number for it. So I just gave her the customer service line.
So really, I suck for not giving 100% But I'm used to her calling us a lot and I don't take her seriously.
There are a lot of people who call the library will bull%@&* questions, but that's for another post.
Then a manager of Circulation sends a call to us. Something that annoys me because they couldn't handle it, and couldn't bother to tell the person there is nothing we can do. To be honest, I feel for the lady, but when people can't get it through their skull that there is nothing we can do, then they suck.

(note, at this point it's shift change time. a coworker comes in and just sits at a terminal. Usually when there is a shift change the person who comes in should take over your call. Hardly anyone does that)
Me=ma'm we are having a shift change, let me get someone to help you, I have to go to another desk.
SC=No! I have been transferred to 5 diff people (I kind of doubt it, unless she called the directors office and they connected her to us, but this is the first shift and no one has spoken to her in our phone room, so the only othe people she could have talked with was the Circ. people; in fact her call came from a manager of Circ. So maybe she called the Director's office, then got sent to Circ., then a Circ. manager, then us).
Me=ok, how can I help you?
SC=I put a book on hold and a cd was placed on hold (she goes on about inconvenience) and I went into my "history" but I found nothing in my history (more about her library card"history"). Now this happens again and again, I don't know if it's my account and someone has to fix it .
(note: I cna't remember exactly what she said but her problems were that she put something on hold and something else got on hold, and she has problems with her "history", which allows people to see what they searched for before. and also, what books they checked out. But you have to click on a tab to put things in history, stuff doesn't go automatically in history)
Me: (tells her how to put things in history, also explain it's a computer glitch that other things get placed on hold. Bottom line, I can't do anything about the computer glitch)
SC=(repeats herself)
Me=(repeat instructions on how to place things in history, and how I can't do anything to keep the glitch from happening again, that I will report it to IT)
SC=well if you don't know my problem how will you report it to IT? (she repeats her problem again).
So finally after 20 min. she gets off the phone.
I get she wants to vent, but I wish she didn't. I also wish the retards at Circ. would have taken care of this, since this is stuff they could help her with. I think it was retarded they sent her to us, esp. since she seemed upset about being transferred a lot. All I could have done was listen to her and tell her how to put things on her history list, and that it was a glitch. Ugh.
