I knew someone who kept Papillons. They are extremely small dogs with fairly normal-sized ears, which makes them look like a butterfly - hence the name. But because they are so small, they have the usual energy of a small dog - and if they decide to make a noise, you know about it.

I'm pretty sure you can train even small dogs to not make so much noise, though. But a lot of people can't be bothered to train their pets, beyond basic house-training.

Where do you work where you can have a dog with you?

It's my own business so I can pretty much do whatever I fell like. Yay me! But thinking about it loads of other retailers in the area take their dogs to work with them. Maybe it's a New Zealand Thing

Back when I had my collie cross, which was years and years ago; she was always really friendly, but had been neglected horribly by her previous owners. Not starved tho; overfed. When we got her, she was obese. O.o Anyway, whenever she played, she'd growl while wagging her tail. I guess someone who was scared of dogs would take it the wrong way.

Anyway, abused/neglected dog doesn't necessarily equal shy, timid dog. That's just a generalisation.
