Put up a sign and if it continues, get loud about it. Embarress the hell outta them.

The first year I was too shy to get loud,I thought oh I'll never be able to yell at customers. The last two years I really haven't had too many problems because I really do embarress the hell out of them.I stop what i'm doing and yell at them in front of the waiting line of people. I don't have to really have to worry about stealing. My desk is about 3 ft from the display thing. So I can catch them.Plus there is a custodian that works in the lobby that is considered a "giant" He's about 7ft tall and weight 500 pounds. He lifts the couch and tables with one hand and hold them while vacuuming. He spends hours in the store talking to me so I think I'm covered. I would love for someone to try to hurt or rob me or steal while hes around

I could not put my personal stuff out
        Same here.

I tend to have a distrust of the general public.

If it's a closed/locked window display, could you just (I know they don't read) put up a sign: DISPLAY ONLY -- NOT FOR SALE! ?
        Because that would make sense.
