Meh....most of the high school kids that were the same age as me at the grocery store were of the "prep/jock" clique and were involved in all the sports/extracurricular activities. I don't even understand why some of them had jobs...since they only worked 1 or 2 days a week and only for 3-4 hours at a time.
There was a lot of favoritism with the managers....they liked the jocky kids better, so even though I'd given plenty of notice that I needed Tuesday nights off for Mary Kay meetings, and I'd give several weeks notice of facials or "parties" for Mary Kay, I'd be refused because too many people were already off, or because the kids in sports NEEDED to be at their events. I guess I didn't NEED to be involved with Mary Kay.
Funny enough, I was actually called into the GM's office about needing every Tuesday off and for requesting "too many" days off (maybe one day every couple of weeks) for facials and parties, and that this was unacceptable and that I needed to pick what was more important: the store or Mary Kay.
Naturally, I wasn't making that much money with Mary Kay and I am not a very pushy person and found it difficult to approach strangers or beg people to buy stuff from me, so I dropped the Mary Kay gig.....but I shouldn't have been put in a situation like that and been forced to make a decision like that. None of the jocky kids were forced to choose between the store and sports.
