Well, I just wanted to voice my thoughts on a matter that I honestly felt (perhaps wrongly, as you say) hadn't been adequately noted on this thread the first time around.
It never really occurred to me that the fact that the thread was three months old should be considered a factor in that.
It was for the reason of people pulling up old threads just to go "Hey look, you guys are wrong" that we instituted the 6 month "auto-lock" for old threads, and how old an issue is should usually be a concern. As for voicing your thoughts, if the thread had been fresh, it probably would have been fine, but I'd like to believe our members are smart enough that if more information came up to show the story didn't actually occur as previously stated, they'd change their opinions based on the new information
Why did everybody here automatically assume that the caller was the one telling the truth, and that her date was the one who was lying?
Yes, GK, I know you know more than you are telling, but the fact remains that the woman could be lying. Both could be telling half-truths. I find it interesting that the cops took the man enough at his word to arrest the woman. I would think for that they might just have some corroborating evidence.
But that is besides the point. As you said, you have more of the facts.
One thing I DO find interesting is that, apparently, the man did not get in any trouble for not paying the bill. I'm sorry, didn't he order some of the food too? And he brought no money with him, nor offered to pay for the bill in some way? I have been on a blind date or two, and for the life of me I can't remember ever having the woman pay for it all, either in my experience or that of anyone I know that has been on a blind date. Generally, blind dates are either modern, where they split the bill, or old-fashioned, where the guy pays for it.
And even if she HAD agreed to pay for it, what kind of jerkwad yahoo shows up for a date without any money on him?
My opinion? Who knows? Either or both of these people could be idiots. I WOULD be interested in knowing the rest of the story, personally.
Mental note: never go on a date with any of GK's friends and piss them off.
GK, I honestly wonder how this hasn't placed you in a room with padded walls yet. If I had to deal with these people at the hotel in addition to my own idiots, I would probably have killed myself by now...
And that, my friend, is the key. See, GK doesn't have to deal with YOUR idiots, just his own. I imagine anyone who had to deal with two different kinds of idiots would have some serious issues. Yes, I work at two bars, but they are both BARS, and thus the idiots I get at either place tend to be of the same KIND. Bar idiots. ID morons. Stupid parents with annoying kids. Obnoxious assholes.
GK, just be glad you don't have to deal with YOUR idiots in person!
There is some big-dollar industry-mainly mining-up there, where people go out about 4 hours north of buttf**k nowhere and make obscene amounts of money*, but that's not a majority.
*And then spend half of it on acid.

Well, to clarify, when I get a call of this time its of course from a jail cell. Which means I speak with officers before I ever speak with those in the bird cage. Thus I get the Whole Picture(tm) and any subsequent follow ups.
It is, of course, remarkable how often their story doesn't match the actual arresting officers. Which is occasionally rather comical.
That caller is honestly about the only one I've had calling from a jail cell that I've had any sympathy for. Usually, I laugh at their stupidity.
Far as I know she got stuck in a cell for a few hours till they could bring him down too and sort it out. I know she didn't end up being charged when all was said and done. Don't know about him as he didn't try to call me later. ;p
I find it amazing that the cops actually arrested the woman in the first place.
That being said, if her story is true, I not only have sympathy for her, I agree with everything negative about the guy that was said here. And then some. Beer knows I have been known to have some colorful invectives for those I think little of.
