Oh yes, they came together for me yesterday.
The first customer was looking at our foam board.
SC: "All this foam board is damaged. Do you have any more in the back"? (A couple had small rips in them, but most had small creases in the corner)
Me: "We don't have any in the back, let me check up top here". (We keep product on feeder shelves up top.) "Nope, doesn't look like we have any more, unfortunately".
SC: Well if you don't have it, can you give me the more expensive one for the same price? The more expensive one was more than 2x the price because it was bigger, was a name brand, and there were 2 in the package, whereas the cheaper one only had 1.
Me: Laughing in my head, I said, "I'm pretty sure we can't do that, but let me ask my manager real quick". I didn't know there were 2 in the pack at the time, so I go just outside of listening distance and talk to my manager, and he said the best he could do was 10% off the damaged one. "Ma'am, the best we can do is 10% off the damaged foam board"
SC: *Looks at her daughter* "Do you want something that's damaged? No, you don't. I don't understand why you can't give me this other foam board for the same price. I came in here for a product, and you don't have it. I don't understand why you can't work with me when you have competition everywhere. That is just not good customer service."
Me: "I'm sorry, but that's all my manager is willing to give."
SC: "Well I want to talk to your manager. I want to talk to him about customer service"
I go get my manager and he talks to her. I wasn't around tho hear the conversation, but he made a deal with her, pointed out there were 2 in a pack, and since she wanted 4, did the math, and ended up taking a dollar off the more expensive pack. Everyone was happy.
The next guy came in to buy a laptop. He wanted to see how it performed on the internet. Our in store wireless has been iffy lately and was veeeeerrrrryyyy slllllooooooooowwwww yesterday.
I informed him that our router was wonky and that's why the internet was slow. He proceeded to say that if the internet was slower than his computer at home, he wasn't interested in buying it. I then explained that internet speed is determined by your modem, and in this case, the wireless hardware as well. He then started arguing with me, saying that the internet was slow because the computer was slow. (It has a core 2 duo processor and 3 gigs of ram, it's NOT slow.) This argument went back and forth for about 10 minutes, adding that he's worked with computers for 50 years and that he worked on computers used in the Apollo space missions. (How that's relevant to today's technology, I have NO idea.) Anyway, I finally said, "I guess we're just gonna have to agree to disagree". He then said thank you, and walked off. At least he was polite. As he was walking out the door, I heard him saying to his wife, "That computer is slower than the one I already have". Ugh.
Computer Guy Epilogue
I told a coworker about the guy, then went to lunch, but I kept my headset on. Said coworker came over the headset and told me "Your computer guy just called, asking what the return policy on laptops were." Did something finally get through? I came back from lunch and he was up front buying the laptop, saying that if it was slower than his current one, he was bringing it back.
Nice.
