  • Comfortable heels

I was reading another post here and it reminded me of this, so I'm starting another post rather than hijacking the other persons.

Anyway, I used to work for a women's shoe store and I had this person come in.

A guy comes in, he's balding, he's wearing makeup, and women's clothing. He comes to me and asks if we have any comfortable heels that he can try on. He then proceeds to explain that he's getting a sex change, going from male to female and generally giving far too much information.

What's more, he was looking at 4 inch heels.

Hm, a 4 inch heel in a size large enough for most men is NOT going to be comfortable, no matter how well it is constructed. But, bully to him for trying. I'm sure there's a company somewhere that handles clothing for Trans folk.

One of the best shopping experiences in my life was going to Payless with two of my gay male friends. One was looking for some heels (he was doing drag for a lip-sync contest). While I helped him, the other friend was strutting around in bright red high heels. That was a fun day.....

There is one in DC...either it was DC or Washington state, never had the family memeber talking about it clarify. I also know that one of my coworkers had feet wide enough that she has special order shoes that are for trans... Some of them are tre cute and some are of the 'Why did you get that?!'

I have very large feet for a woman. I don't generally want particularly feminine shoes (and I default to Doc Marten type boots) but it would be nice to have at least one girly pair. However between the size of my feet and the fact that I won't buy leather there isn't much out there.

There is however a company that makes rather wonderful shoes, and if I had the money (over £100 a pair) I'd like some. But the way that the most outrageous shoes are the ones available in the largest sizes is a bit of a give away that most of their customers may not be women.

Still want some if I even make my fortune.

4 inch heels? Bless him. Between my bad ankles and poor sense of balance, I can't handle more than 2 on my BEST day.

It's a great movie, with the guy who played the Agent from Serenity as a drop dead sexy transvestite, and perhaps the best metaphor for life ever right at the end. The fashion show, for those who've seen it.

Are four inch heels comfortable for anyone?

Hahahahaha. In my experience... Women wear heels like that for 2 reasons.... Photo shoots and to get a man going. Or a woman, lol. Period.

There are those of us who are vertically challenged that wear heels for the extra height.

                          I need taller shoes.....

I rarely even bother with that much anymore. I've had enough twisted ankles over the years, it's just not worth it to me to wear high heels. And when i do i look ridiculous because i'm not used to walking in them. Even on my wedding day i plan on wearing a pair of flat sandals. I'll be damned if the bride is gonna fall flat on her ass in front of everyone.

I'd say 4 inch heels are the minimum to BE comfortable! With higher heels, your weight is thrown forward more, and you walk more and more on your toes. At about the four inch mark, your hips and legs click into the "I'm walking on my toes" position, which your body already knows, and you don't have to compensate for a median position. It also reduces instances of "walking like a linebacker". I know you've seen girls do it, they hunch forward to compensate for the pelvic tilt, and march.....

That, and a chunky heel really does make all the difference. Same with a sturdy sole, a la a mini-platform. Keeps you from having to worry about the side-to-side motion as much. I mean, no heel is ever going to be as comfortable as say, combat boots, but there are at least things you can do to reduce your risk of rolling your ankle. Ouchie!
