      The till was not opened to prevent the robbery, rather to show that they could not feasibly break a $20 bill for change.

      Also, this redefines remote. If any of you have seen "The Reaping", the town featured there is a booming metropolis by comparison. Stuff like this does not happen. The guy pulled a similar tactic at 4 other stores before he was caught. That's how the police finally took the 911 report seriously, and he was charged.
