Yesterday, I had the joy of covering the switchboard during a company meeting. They like the board left open for whatever reason, which I think is stupid since you can't give the calls to anyone, but whatever. Anyway, I have this braniac call in:
Me: *company name*
Braniac: Yes, is *co-worker* available?
Me: Right now, she is in a company meeting. Would you like her voicemail?
Braniac: No, this is an emergency, can I speak to a supervisor?
Me: Okay, is this a family emergency? (which I would have gotten her for)
Braniac: No, I have a payment to a policy that I need to make today.
Me: (wishing I could tell this lady where to go) Right now, everyone who can help you with that is in a company meeting. Would you like voicemail?
Braniac: (obviously baffled that I'm not caving to her demand) Well, um, what time will the meeting be over?
Me: About a half hour.
Braniac: I'll call back. *click*
I was reminded of that line that someone on here (I don't remember who) said a while back.. lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on our part. She had plenty of time to pay her bill, decided to wait until the day before her policy was going to cancel, then expected everyone to bend over backwards for her????
Thank god I have a long weekend this weekend!
