SC: "Well, I don't want to buy something that my kid is going to put together in a few minutes and be done with it. I wanted something that will take a few hours or so."

Okay. I'm sorry, but I don't believe ANY toddler will be entertained by anything for "a few hours or so". They don't have the attention span for anything other than the smaller puzzles with bigger pieces. I don't care how smart you think your child is...it's the attention span that will make a 1000 piece puzzle impossible.

Some young children do have fairly good attention spans. Not necessarily *predictably* good, but often enough to notice. I think my little girl (who is 3) might be able to handle a 50- or 100-piece puzzle, if the pieces are big enough to be safe. But I don't think we've tried that yet!

at the self checks(the epicenter of stupid, usually the funny kind) when you scan an item with a sensor to set off the alarms by the door it tells you to touch the star and has a big flashing button that says "OK". way too many peole say something similar to "why isn't it working?". I think I'm going to sugest making it a big red button that says "DO NOT TOUCH"
You would also need fine print of 'unless you want to leave' at the bottom for the semi-intellectuals who would otherwise be stuck not wanting to push the big button of doom. And we all know SCs don't read fine print anyway, so it won't detract from the "DO NOT TOUCH" either.

As for the puzzle, any kid I've seen (myself included iirc) would just turn it over and start again anyway. Failing that, SHE could turn it over and the kid will go back at it. But unfortunately wouldn't work, as it requires interaction from her, so that'd never happen.
My favourite puzzles were the 'fit the animal in the shape' kind
