  • I don't care if it is against the law!!!!

Ok, so it was another one of those days in the land of obnoxious customers when I ran into a real winner. Pursuant to this crazy thing called THE LAW, if someone is not authorized on an account, I can't give out any information. Simple concept, right? HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

Me: "Thank you for calling my company, how can I help you?"

SC: "I have called in three times today and no one can give me any information on my mortgage."

Me: "Okie dokie, let me get the account number". (At this point it is given to me) "And who am I speaking with please?"

    SC: "Mrs. Moron Customer"

Me: "Do you have a first name?"

SC: "You don't need to know that. My husband and I have been married for 30 years." (At this point I hit the mute button and say "Oh that poor, poor man."

    Me: "Well, I do actually."

    SC: "No you don't!!!"

Me: "Okay then, I see here that the only authorized user on the account is your husband so I cannot release information to you. (The husband must be a cat...Oh wait, a cat wouldn't be dumb enough to marry this chick.)This is in accordance with federal law."

SC: "WHAT??? ARE YOU A *#^#ING ROBOT!! EVERYONE ELSE KEEPS TELLING ME THAT!!! I don't care if it is the law, break it you (fill in the blank)!!!!

We went around and around for five minutes before the old hag finally gave up after telling me I was a robot. Oh, no wonder I drink like a fish when I get home.

    What a doucheasaurus. Seriously.

Although one thing you can suggest (courtesy of my sup who rocks) is that it'll cost them however-much-the-fine-is. One of my coworkers did this when two kids tried to buy cigarettes and were underage.

I this bugs me so much. Someone else had another thread about this. How they pay the bills. How hard is it to put your husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/whatever on the bills. The cable bill, the phone bill, the mortgage are all in both my parents name. Therefore either can deal with the companies. My ex and I kept seperate bank accounts but the phone and credit cards were joint. Both names were there so both of us could pay the bill/questions charges. I understand something like the mortage you wouldn't want in your girlfriends name, but after 30 years of marriage I think it should be in your wife name

I think it's about as hard as getting your ID out and ready at the bottle store, or having your card ready for swiping at the checkout, or having a pen in your hand ready to go when you phone for some information...

There wa a time ONe Just Didn't put the wife's name on things. We're the interesting exception- or at least from Nat'l Guard readings- if dh were to be suddenly deployed, I wouldn't have to muck with anything, just pick up teh power of attorney and the new will.

But that's no reason for her to be like that.

It's quite funny how much people don't care about the law when it's not their @$$ on the line.

I get this a lot. I work at a university, so I have to deal with FERPA.

Luckily, when a parent starts whining that they pay the bills, they should be able to see the information, blurting out "FERPA!" seems to be enough to get most people to drop it.
