Me: yea Dave, I called yesterday and spoke with a young lady and she said I cant get a discount
Guest: for which unit?
He tells me

: ok sir, I will go ahead and apply that discount for you
Guest: but I havent told you my name or member number, I am a member of the welcome back club (note: it is actually comeback club, not welcome back club)
Me: that's fine, I can offer you the discount
Guest: but why arent you asking for my name and membership number first? You just give discounts to anyone that asks for one?
Me: I will get your name when you book the reservation
Guest: but what about my membership number?
Me: I dont need that
Guest: but how will you know I am a member of the welcome back club?
Me: your name is in the system if you have rented with us before
Guest: you're not doing this right, you need to have my membership number
Me: (not wanting to continue this silly argument) ok give me your membership number
he tells me
Guest: now repeat that back to me
I repeat it back to him
Guest: I just feel like you are giving me this discount to shut me up and not because you think I deserve it.
Me: why do you say that?
Guest: because you didnt even care that I am a member of the welcome back club and you would have given that discount to anyone
Me: sir, I gave you the discount and even had to override it in the system to do it
Guest: its the principal
Me: ok I'll tell you what, since you have been our customer for many years and t show you we appreciate your business, I will give you an additional 5% off
Guest: I didnt ask for more money off
Me: well sir, I am trying to help....what do I have to make this right with you?
Guest: when I started coming here 12 years ago, everyone was so helpful but things have changed and it gets worse every year, you people just dont care anymore. This is just a job to you but it's our vacation and we spend a lot of money there....(and on and on and on for about 10 minutes)
Me: sir again, I want to help you but I need you to help me help you...its obvious that you're upset but what have I done to make you upset? I dont understand
Guest: I will tell you what you did. First you didnt even apologize for that girl insulting me and not giving me a discount despite my telling her I am a member of the welcome back club. Then, you just casually say yea I'll give you a discount like I am nobody. I happen to be a member of the welcome back club.

Guest: you're a little asshole, you know that
Me: sir, this call is over. I tried to help you and went above and beyond and if you cant appreciate that, I am terribly sorry but I cant and wont listen to you call me names
