First SC I've had in a while.
Quick fact: There's 2 laundry rooms on every student floor of the building.
Student comes down and complains that the room on her side of her floor is locked. Here's how the conversation progressed:
Me: yours truly
SS: Sucky Student
(My thoughts in italics)
Me: Well, you'd have to talk to the RA-
SS: They're not home
Me: Or use the other room on your floor-
SS: It's busy!
Me: will you let me finish a sentence? How about the floors above or below? (The laundry rooms are about 20 ft. from the elevators, and I've done this once or twice in an emergency)
SS: Why can't you just come unlock it?
Me: Because my co-worker's on her lunch break, so I can't leave the desk, and it's a master key, so I can't give it to you.
SS: Come on, give me the key, I'll leave these here. I'm not going to steal anything! *holds up room keys, including elevator card*
Me: How are you going to get upstairs without your elevator card? I'm sorry, if I give you the key, I get fired. Giving a master key to a student is instant termination.
SS: *fumes for a moment* You don't even care, do you?
Me: that you have to wait to do my laundry? No, I don't Of course I care. Just not enough to get fired. Look, I've given you your options, either wait for my co-worker to come back-
SS: How long will that be?
Me: again with the interrupting? A little under an hour, she just left. Or you can get an RA to unlock the door.
SS: Any RA?
Me: If they were on duty, yes. They'll have a key for it. Otherwise they can come down and get it.
SS: *leaves without saying anything*
So, for some reason they think I should care about them needing to do laundry, but they don't have to care about my getting fired. Nice lady.
