  • Indians? In India? How odd!

Since I am quite lucky with work, it has taken me some time to get anyone enough of a git for me to register and start posting though, as many, I have been lurking for some time. My apologies in advance; I am verbose.

My job is as part of the travel team within a large insurance company. We arrange the travel and accomodation of our colleagues going over to to India as part of our offshoring programme. Today, we had a delightful complaint from one of the travellers. She demands to be moved from her hotel. Why is this? Are there bedbugs, building works, ghosts? Oh no, far more serious, boys and girls.

She checked in last night, late, and today when she went down to breakfast she was the only European. Not only were there no white people at breakfast, but someone tried her room door during the night! This cannot be an honest mistake. It was one of those nasty horrible natives trying to rob/molest/murder her!

The attempted murder of her in her bed by persons unknown is merely a side issue, however. The main complaint, to which she repeatedly returns, is the fact there are too many Indians in the hotel and she feels overwhelmed, isolated and unnerved by them. Well lady, the hotel costs £150 a night, and (especially when you take comparative living costs into account) that's pretty damn swanky, so you've got fat cushy businessmen and possibly Indian mobsters there and should be pretty safe.

The best thing is, she's travelling with three companions (English, I presume Caucasian or she would not deign to accomapny them) and none of them wished to breakfast with her. Why ever not? She sounds so delightful.
Just so you know, where I come from, Lauren is a girl's name.

    Wow. Just...wow.

I know when I went to Japan I was totally shocked and horrified to see all those Japanese people. What were they doing there?

someone tried her room door during the night!
that would kinda freak me out too... not because of nationality, but .. if it was my first night in a country I'd never been in... it would be a little unnerving to have any stranger trying my door.

however as stated, yeah... a bit unreasonable to complain about there being too many locals at the hotel.

only thing i can say is... some of her fears and insecurities aren't unusual. when i first went to japan i was lucky in that i had a bit of a "security blanket" - everyone with me was american and one of them (now my boyfriend) had even been there before and was able to show us around the local city.

only thing i can suggest is... a "wake-up call" pamphlet, explaining some of the differences in culture and what to expect. sure it's a bit of a no-brainer (like gee, India has ... Indians!) but... it can help put people in the right mindset. (and yeah, my company had them... especially since we were going to be there on a long term basis).

            Hi Lauren!

Yes, people are quite surprised to find Indians (American) in Santa Fe. Actually, it's amusing as hell to watch the tourists.

And why the hell was England filled with bloody Sassenachs when I visited? Gah!

I wonder if there was ever a place called Caucasia...
On Topic: That's a hell of a complaint. It's gonna take some radical new genocide to rectify that so that her stay is more comfortable.

Actually the term comes from the Caucasus Mountains. Named for Caucas, the mythological ancestor of the Caucasions who settled there after the fall of the tower of Babel.

Back on topic, these types of complaints sometimes make me wonder if someone's put hallucigenics in my drinks other times I hope they put in the good alcohol.

                    Cruises

You should see the messages in the cruise forums sometimes from first (and even rarely multiple) time cruisers.

The main thing to remember is that many cruises are cheap compare to other vacation options. Lodging, transportation, food all included in a price that can reach below $400 per week. People local to the ship ports often find going on a cruise is cheaper that staying at home! So some of the complaints I have seen posted.

                    1) The ships who's home port is San Juan has too many Spanish speaking people on-board.

                    2) The ships sailing out of Florida's ports has too many old people on-board.

                    3) Why do some of the people on Carribean islands refuse to speak proper English or only French, Dutch, Spanish.

                    4) Why is the boat staff mostly non-White/non-American.

                    5) The beach water was salty.

                    6) The beach was sandy.

                    7) The Carribean sun is too hot and/or they go sun burnt when they fell asleep on the beach.

I had had a couple people ask me if there were ANY children in the hotel. "Uh, yes I am sure there is..." Then they make the catbutt face. I remember laughing at one of them when they stated, "You allow children here!!!!!?" What kind of question is that?

Also has some mild racial b.s., to which I am happy to see them go. Tell this lady that "they are everywhere!!!!!!" She sucks, very much so.
