Am I the only one relieved to learn they didn't play the cancer card?

Ew, now I feel kind of dirty feeling relieved for such a reason.

The ol' "You should have known I meant the other week!" bit. lame. I can't believe that logic makes sense to people's minds.

I sometimes want to ask what they do, and as an example they are bankers, "Well, you should have known that I didn't mean to spend that money, even though I admit I did spend the money myself, & should just put it back into my account!"

It's just another way of rationalizing how something is "someone else's fault."

They probably had to explain to a husband/wife/SO why their vacation wasn't on the date they expected, and they also wanted to make a "case" for asking for something they weren't entitled to (a huge upgrade). It's so much easier to do that when you can point the finger at someone else instead of admitting their own blame in the matter.
