I have similar problems at the nursing home, but all residents there have dementia in some form. I've had my ass grabbed, pinched, and slapped. My crotch grabbed, and my boobs felt up. I've had a couple men try to get me to get into bed with them, and a woman, also.
I just roll my eyes, tell them that it's inappropriate, and continue on task. If redirection doesn't work, then I leave (if possible) and try to reapproach at little later.

It really just goes with the territory.

How sad that these people have to abuse the people who are CARING for them. It's even sadder that you have to put up with this. Good on you, though, for knowing that this is part of the game and going ahead with your plans anyway. The people who are not perverted idiots will be fortunate to have a tough and caring person to tend to them.

It's one thing if the person is suffering from dementia, senility, Alzheimer's, etc.; it's quite another if he's taking advantage of the situation.

If he has his full mental faculties, then I think his behavior should be addressed in a straightforward way. That's something that should be brought up in class for a full discussion.

There is no mild. Sexual harrassment is NEVER a mild case. It felt wrong so don't feel like it was nothing. Don't let anybody make you feel like what he did and said was just something small and should be dismissed. That's the first mistake everybody makes about this sort of thing but its how YOU feel not the readers or anybody else. And once you say NO then he should have stopped. It is not your job to be swarmed with his disgusting comments.

I feel better now that its been a couple days. Ive had comments thrown at me like that before but never with the consistency that guy showed.

Sad part is that he was completely mentally competent!! There wasnt a form of dementia or mental illness at all in his history and he was very with it as far as his care went, so I really dont believe that was it.

I probably couldve been moved had I told my instructor what he was saying, but I didnt want to come off as whiny and that was my mistake. I thought I was okay til he did the finger rubbing while gesturing at my nips, thats what pissed me off so much b/c it was just so blatantly disgusting.

Ive also been punched by patients too, but these were severely demented patients with the mental capacity of children. All this and I havent even had my Mental Health rotation yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next time, Im not putting up with it AT ALL. And will kick some ass if need be. (not literally of course.)
