- Power or AV cords chewed up by dog/cat/rodent/other household critters ("Does that mean you can't take it in?" Well gee, let me think about that one a moment...)
While I understand your business probably has a policy for this, I'd personally be surprised. Depending on the hardware involved, I'm surprised you don't have a couple of spares and could give him something for the main unit which works (after it's been tested of course). Cords/Cables are minor and often swappable.
*sigh* You're too far away from me... and too taken... we need to fix those issues.

Pff, not my fault you live all the way over there!
"That's too bad. Hospitals aren't fun to fight through."
"What IS fun to fight through?"
"Gardens. Electronics shops. Antique stores, but only if they're classy."

umm, Fenrus... should I point out that you're taken too...
on that note, before I cause the thread to drift too much, never worked at a game store, but coming from the other side of the counter, I do appreciate the good game store employees who understand that their game obsession isn't everyone's... yes, I like simulation games, strategy games, RPGs, and very rarely a shooter... please do not tell me about how I really should try Madden it's the best game ever or that I absolutely must try Far Cry it will make me reconsider my lack of interest in shooters because I'm really not interested in those games.
If you wish to find meaning, listen to the music not the song
Sadly I've seen this firsthand with computer systems too.

We don't keep any spares around. The only components we have are either the new packaged ones or the used ones that get traded in. Nothing else but.
"If we refund your money, give you a free replacement and shoot the manager, then will you be happy?" - sign seen in a restaurant
This is really the whole "Lowes situation:" sending people who don't know the first thing about hardware in to buy hardware.
.
When my roomie's dad was reinstalling our dryer, he needed a longer cord (a 'mare's head', or some such thing) so instead of relying on my complete lack of knowledge, he gave me the old one to bring to the Ace hardware store.
I walked in with this thing held high, and a sales person came right over, took me to the area I needed, and picked out the item I wanted, in a longer length.
Yay! Now, THAT'S the way to shop at a hardware store!

My dad always wrote down what he wanted me to buy. Of course, that didn't help when he misestimated the size, or failed to specifiy things like 'galvanized' and I wound up at the exchange counter three times in one afternoon. *sigh*
It's little things that make the difference between 'enjoyable', 'tolerable', and 'gimme a spoon, I'm digging an escape tunnel'.
