No, not really. Not for the person dealing w/ the ignorant, lazy guest. At Target we call our customers guests b/c they certainly make themselves at home.
My experience today is definitely nothing compared to what I'm used to. When I worked in the returns department I was used to getting objects thrown at me (including a knife w/ nothing protecting me from the blade other than the guest's bad aim), threatened to be beat up, and 2 life threats (people really take it seriously when you won't return something for cash when they didn't pay w/ cash to begin w/). So yea..this experience of the day is just one of pure ignorance and laziness.
So in jewelry I get packages everyday for jewelry to put out. They'll come in several boxes b/c the fine jewelry, costume, and watches will all be separated from each other. Obviously it's almost black Friday which means today I got a lot of boxes of jewelry to put out. More than 10 boxes, so I grabbed a cart to put the empty boxes into. I have to keep my first impression up and obviously empty boxes littered on the floor won't look nice.
After a while I've gotten about 10 boxes emptied and into the cart. I'm putting out some watches when I look over and see a guest throwing my empty boxes onto the floor so she can use my cart. I go over and say "Excuse me ma'am, that's my cart for my empty boxes b/c I can't just leave them on the floor like that." She says "Well momma needs a cart."
Now, I had several things I wanted to say but couldn't say w/out getting into trouble. So I was at a loss of words b/c I couldn't think of anything I could say that wouldn't get me into trouble. So while I was trying to come up w/ something to say she finishes dumping my boxes and says "Thanks" then rolls off.
I was seething w/ anger. I wanted to say "Well momma you can walk yourself on up to where the carts are and get yourself your own cart just like everyone else. Furthermore, you aren't my momma." You can see why that'd be a problem to say that.
So I'm picking up the boxes and have my hands full when I hear a guest ask me if I can ring them up. I have a register at my boat b/c any of my fine jewelry has to be rung up at my boat before it leaves my boat to ensure that it isn't stolen. Anyways, seriously..this lady can't see I have my hands full? Why can't she walk herself up where all the cashiers are..their only job is to ring someone up. But since she was buying jewelry I couldn't tell her no. I can say no to someone who isn't buying jewelry but alas she was. So I told her I would and I toss the boxes on top of my boat. They all slide back onto the floor which made me oh so happy.
She of course pointed out the obvious and said they were all on the floor. I'm pretty sure my face was bright red b/c I could feel it heating up w/ the rage that was boiling in me. I snapped and said "Well that's b/c the cart I put them in magically disappeared from under them so w/ nothing to support them they fell to the floor." Lucky for me she wasn't offended b/c she was also a retail worker who just got off.
That is my guest experience of the day.
