About two years ago, our old manager got on really well with a group of women. So much so that she decided that every time they came in, they could get 20% discount. I have no idea why she did this, because these women were awful, self important hags. They didn't even come in that often, probably once or twice a month.
Remember, this was TWO YEARS ago, when we were under completely different management. When our current manager took over, he wasn't too happy about the discount, but told us to give it anyway, just to give us an easier life.
I took the discount away from them.
Like I said, they were only in once or twice a month, but they kept insisting on their discount because they were "keeping the business afloat" and were "extremelly loyal". We have customers who come in every day and they don't get discount, so I don't see why they should get it. We also have regular customers who are nothing but pleasent to the staff and don't get a discount.
They became more and more self important. They were so "loyal" that they deserved better treatment than anyone else. They were rude to the staff, making snide comments about everything and called one of the girls a retard. (I didn't learn about that until later)
After putting up with them for three hours, one of them came up to the bar.
SC: Four coffees please.
Me: OK.
SC: And you WILL give me 20% discount.
That pissed me off beyond belief. We have been good enough to give this dipshit a discount, and she goes around demanding it? Shouldn't she wait until she is offered it.
Me: Unfortunately I can't do the discount anymore.
The lady looked at me as if I had just called her the "C" word.
SC: WHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT???
Me: Credit crunch. We need all the money we can get.
SC: But we are in heeeeeeeeereeeeee all the tiiiiime! We help keep your business going!
Me: Yes, but giving out discounts isn't helping that.
She paid up. When she returned to her table, I heard a series of "WHHAAAAATT???" and "OH MY GOD!"s coming from the group.
It felt good. I hope they never come back.
