So, Hobbs is my brother, and I have had a similar incident when I worked for Target several years ago.
I was working as a Guest Service Team Lead (GSTL) and watching my registers like a good supervisor when a man came up to me frantic saying that he couldn't find his son.
Like a good Team Lead I called a "Code Yellow" over our walkies activating the Store Operator and Security Team, I gave a description and we started checking all the normal areas of the store; toys, electronics, etc. After a few minutes of not finding the son I started getting worried and called for an Manager to come and help.
We got the whole team looking for this kid. I mean there are no Team Members helping customers anymore, and even our stock team is checking the baler, loading docks and even in the backstock areas.
I'm at one of the entrance doors with security and the store manager is at the other door, we are stopping kids that match the description left and right to no avail.
Suddenly, this kid comes up and starts talking to the dad (no not the one we're looking for) but his other son. He asks the dad why we're looking for his brother (by this time we're pretty desperate and about to notify the police so we're paging his name across the loudspeaker). And reminds him that the boy didn't even come with them. He doesn't believe him, long story short, we call the grandmother who verifies the kid is with her and the man apologizes for wasting 20 minutes of our time.
It wasn't so much of a sad, or OMG story, but kinda sucked that we had ppl worried sick that something had happened to this kid and he was never in our store to begin with. In hindsight, we probably should have had security reviewing the vids to see what he looked like coming in and checking to see if he walked out.
