That's why I suggested charging (non-refundable, because it's a service) for the cuts, not just the fabric. It's a suggestion you could pass on to management.

The reason it's a good idea is that it shows customers that there is, in fact, a cost associated with the work, not just the materials. It gives them an actual reason to do more things themselves. And if they really do value the cuts more than you charge... then your store might then be able to afford extra employees to do it for them.

      I have had your job.
And I am sorry that you felt you were not give the requested support by the replies.
I get that it is policy . . .I just hadn't come across that being policy where I worked or now shop for fabric.
I also see why someone might ask you to make the additional cut - but it doesn't matter because you do have to follow policy.
You might see if there is a way to get the policy printed and posted at the cutting stations. It might help avoid some of the headaches.

        I buy 8 studs each 2" by 4" and 8 feet long,
        Oh my!!!!

I am soooo sorry, but I couldn't resist!

My only excuse is that it is Friday and a full moon - and such a great line....

Seriously, though, my MIL is a great seamstress (sp?) and even when she was learning, she would never pull anything like that.

Sucks to that SC and hugs *tequila shot* to you,

But here is the thing, I can't post any signs and I can't reccommend anything to management. This isn't a small, family owned business, or even a franchise. It is a corporate store. Even the management here doesn't make policy, corporate makes policy.

Thanks for the suggestions on trying to make my life a little easier, but when I said I can't change anything, I really mean it.

If you were an employee at walmart, would you go to management, make a suggestion on how to change their policy, and seriously expect them to listen to you? Or even follow your advice?

There is nothing I can do about it.

I was at a fabric specific store - not crafts but sewing supplies and fabric . . .
It was a franchise - but had to follow corporate policies.
When we had issues we had our regulars that would help in notifying corporate and getting others to do the same to get things to change.
I am sorry that the store doesn't have a way to let corporate who are somewhat out of touch because they aren't in the store on a day to day basis and forget what it can be like.
Hang in there . . .the holidays and the once a year crafters run is almost over.

(for your funny bone . . .I was measuring out to make a table skirt . . .took the inches and divided by 12 to get my yardage . . .yes you read that right . . .I would have ended up with too much fabric - this is what happens when you step away from sewing for a few months and try to jump back in)

              If they're smart....err....Never mind.

Okay, that's funny. That would have sucked! Good thing you caught the mistake!

For those of you who are all, "huh?", to get yardage rather than footage, you have to divide by 36.
