  • And that, boys and girls, is why I hate Walmart.com

This is my first year working retail during Christmas. It's a joy, I must say. Not only does the phone in my department ring off the freaking hook, but I'm constantly having people walk up to me, ask if we have a particular toy, get a "no, I'm sorry", then say "but the website says you have it!"

After this is said, the conversation can go one of two ways:

    One:

Me: "Did you check if this particular store had it?"
SC: "Well, no, what they list is what every store has!"
Me: "No, not necessarily. Every Wal-Mart is different, and not all Wal-Marts carry the same items in their inventory."
This then turns out to be false advertising and they get pissed.

    Two:

Me: "Did you check if this particular store had it?"
SC: "Yes! It says that store **** has it. That's you guys!"
Me: "Well, actually, this is store 160*."
This too somehow turns out to be false advertising...

I've also been asked multiple times if the website price matches Amazon.com or Ebay. I could see price matching Amazon, but Ebay? Really?

That was my big problem at the hobby shop. We were a small franchise, but they thought we had everything on the website!

I work there too, and people ask me the same thing.

"Can't you check on the computer to see what you have in stock?"
No, it doesn't work that way.

      *Pulls out a phone*
"The website says you have it in stock."
What the website says doesn't always ring true.

"This store has this product at x.xx amount."
      Good for you?

And every phonecall ever: "What time are you open til?"

      etc etc

I hate that too. I work for that store as well, as a cashier/customer service desk, and get asked a lot of the time if we can price match for Walmart.com. Separate entity from stores, so, no.
"I'm not even supposed to BE here today!"

Reminds me of this guy that came into my store a while back. First thing he says to me is "I know you're a dealer for the website". I'm thinking "What? A dealer? What do you think we are? A car lot?"

Anyway, the guy's looking for some random item he found on the site, and when he finds out that we don't have it, he throws a tantrum about how we're a dealer for the site, so we should carry everything the site has listed, in all the sizes available, etc., before storming out the door in a huff.

Yeah, we can really carry the thousands of items on the site in our little store...They'd all fit in here so perfectly.
