  • I was a manager for 30 years

So today we are still getting snow, the lot is not even snow free from the previous day. Our trucks are late or stuck and one of my CW's, who was supposed to close the dept called out 1 minute before they were scheduled to arrive. Thanks asshole.

So the MOD lets me pick (yay) one person want to work with to do the prep work for closing. The MOD also let me close the register and ONLY do prep no other work such as helping customers. (double yay)

My CW and I are in the freezer getting the product we need to prep. We have been in the freezer no more than a minute. Out of no where a SC (who had to go behind the counter and possibly have access to knives, box cutters, etc then into the freezer) barges in.

SC: Hey! I was wondering if I could pay for <items>
Me: Sir! get out of the freezer and on to the sales floor.
SC: *steps out of freezer, still i back room* I was just wondering if....."
Me: Sir! Customer are not allowed in the back rooms. Please step onto the tiled sales floor.
SC: But I just have quick question. Can I...
Me: SIR! GET OUT OF MY BACKROOM NOW!

By this time my CW emerges and we force the SC unto the sales floor.

SC: You know all I wanted to ask was if you could ring up these few items and <My name> and <CW name> were rude.
Me: I'm sorry (not) you fee that way. Due to liability reasons we not not have customers in the back rooms.
SC: I know that. i was a manager for <my company> for over 30 years. I know that policy. I felt that it was taking too long and I am late for work.
CW: Then i'm sure you know that we have no control ovfer those rules ans it comes form corp and they are for employee and customer safety. *best line ever coming* As a prison guard (yes he was wearing his photo ID, and jacket for the Dept. of Corrections) you enforce strict polices for guard and prisoner safety. We we are the same.
SC: What did i do wrong? Why are you accusing me of going in the back rooms. As a former manager i would never do that.
Me: I'm sure you also know that the camera doesn't lie. This whole incident is on tape.
SC: Well you should be more lenient with you customers. You don't want to loose them.
CW: You can talk to a manager at the Service Desk if you want. I will talk to them also.

The best part, is he didn't look to be over 40-45. so you have been a manager at <company> since you were 10 or 15, riiiiiiight. Then you went thought all the training to become a guard after your 30 yrs. of management experience. And I have bridge for sale.

God, that happens alllll the time.

People try to follow you through doors that say "employee only".

And people go into the wrong doorway that is NEXT to the bathrooms, where our security office is located. The door states "restricted access", in huge red letters, and people try to open it all the time.

I've had to literally yell at people, because they didn't hear me the first two times, politely telling them that the bathroom is to their right.

        UPDATE

The SC in question came in on Christmas Eve, when it is nice and busy. They whined to the GM who basically said "you were in a employees only area, said employees have every right to keep it that way, I have seen the tape stop lying."

The SC wanted to get a free coffee because of the troubles. He was offered a coffee card, where you buy 6 get the 7th free. He tore it up and stormed out.

          Asshat managers

I'm happy that you did what you did with the dumbass "manager", matt. If he hadn't left under his own power I would have called some managers to help me haul him out of the freezer, but of course I wasn't there, and you had your co-worker drag him out. And a stiff-spined manager for saftey in the workplace. So all's well that ends well.
Did you report his sorry butt to the correctional institution that he works at?
