  • The dollar doesn't help...

Had an older lady come in last night that proved she doesn't know math.

Her stuff came to $7.73. She hands me a $20 then says she has the 73 cents. She looked in all of her pockets and her purse and infact did not have it.

She hands me a $1 and tells me to take it out of there. I tried to tell her it doesn't help any and tried to handed it back. She insisted it did.
We went back and forth over if it helped or not but in the end I gave up.

I gave her $13.27 back in change.

Now we have a saying we use for people that give us too much money and leave. We say they must have went to the local high school.

Like if they owe $0.65 and hand us a lot of change and say its $0.65 and walk away and when you count it its really $0.79, we say oh they went to Local High!

Well with this lady my brain to mouth filter almost failed. I almost said/asked... I would say you went to Local High but you are way to old, maybe time to see your doctor?

Nope $13.27 is correct. The customer insisted that VenomX take the $1 as well as the $20 note.

Only if the change will help do not add one more dollar

Only have the change to make a round number or don't use the change. Just smile and nod.

I could understand her handing you an extra $3 so that she get back a $5 bill, but this move was just stupid.

LOL, I've had customers do that before....usually they laughed at themselves afterward.

As for me, I like getting the change back....I have a jar that is almost full and ready for a trip to Coinstar

What really gets them confused is if you take the one, set it on the counter, count out the change picking up the dollar bill that was left on the counter to include in the change. They are utterly flabergasted.

OMG, I thought I was the only one, because this joke has been around since my MOTHER went to my HS, and its not us, but the fact that our school was so poor in math that it stuck around. Thats pretty flippin' funny!
