Attention all MAW donors! It is now January 2009. No, I cannot turn the calendar back so you can get your donation tax deduction on 2008. No, we did not do that for you last year. We get audited every year and every donation we receive is date stamped for the date we receive it. If the paperwork says 01/01/2009 and the computer we enter the data in says 12/31/2008, guess who will be out of the wish granting business asap.
And just what is it with people who wait until the very last day of the year to make their donation? Does one or two days really make that much of a difference in the interest from your bank? Our on line donations jump more than 1000 over the norm on the last day of the year, every year.

My version was fairly mild - someone saying they tried to place an order on the 31st on December (previous catalogue), so could they have the offer prices from them.

Granted, they did have voicemails left all over the building to prove this, so fair enough, but their entire order consisted of, "Order me one of everything that's listed as vegan in your special offers and I'll call after to knock off the ones I don't want."

And I'm sure if you had 50 vegan things in your catalog that the SC would only want 3-4 things total, causing you extra work taking off all of the unnecessary items she doesn't want. Wouldn't she have a catalog to choose her crap from in the first place? It would be easy to simply say "I want everything vegan except for x, y and z products," but I'm sure she wanted to waste her time, and yours, with an extra call to 'refine' her order.

I used to hear stories of this when I worked for a mutual fund company. April 15 is the last day to get your IRA money into the account for the previous year.

Thing is, people would file their taxes early, including the IRA money they planned to put into their account with their refunds, so there was always a scramble on April 15.

Luckily, I didn't have to speak to people directly, and only handled specialized accounts, not IRA's...
