  • This is the reason why you want free parking?

This happened to my co-worker yesterday.

The phone inside the booth rings, she looks up, & sees a car at the exit gate.

    baffling male customer: bmc
    co-worker: cw

cw: "How may I help you?
bmc: "Yeah, I did not receive a ticket to pay for my parking. The ticket machine did not give me a ticket"
A ticket is not needed to pay for your parking at the university where we work. Only money is needed. The Parking office disabled the ticket machine in 2007 because it was not working properly. The vending machine that dispenses tokens does not need a ticket. The Parking office does not ask you for a ticket when you go there to pay for your parking with a debit card, a credit card, or with a check.
cw: "You need to purchase a token to exit the garage. A token is $5.00."
She explains where to pay for his parking
bmc: "Well, ah, do I have to do this?"
cw: "Yes, you need a token to exit the garage. That is the only way you will exit the garage."
    bmc: "Are you serious?"
cw: "Yes, you need a token to exit the garage. The token is $5.00. That is the only way you will exit the garage"
bmc: "Well, I am going to the hospital to pick up my mother"
cw; "I understand that, but you need a token to exit the garage"
bmc: "Can't you just make one exception for me?
cw: "I'm sorry, but I cannot"
    bmc: "Just one exception?"
cw: "I'm sorry, but I cannot do that"
bmc: "Is there anyone I can talk to?"
cw: "Even if you speak to someone, you still will be told to pay for your parking. Staff members who park in the garage still pay for their parking."
    bmc: "Really?"
    cw: "Yes"
The customer backs up & pays for his parking. He drove off in a hurry.

What's with all these people not understanding PAID parking? geez...

Just tell them that unless they are BLEEDING, they aren't getting free parking.

Then sit back and wait to see if someone will slash their own arm open to get out

Of course, then you charge em anyway

When will people realize that this is NOT our rules and it is the company's rule that everybody follows?

When spineless managers grow a spine and stand up to customers They use it because it works, sadly.
        Pit bull-

There is no breed of dog more in need of our compassion; in need of our call to arms on their behalf; and in need of what should be the full force of our enduring sanctuary.

I will start using this when customers want me to make an exception.

"I understand that; however, 1) the dept. I report makes the rules & 2) I do have to follow them."

If he truly was in a hurry, he wouldn't have minded the charge. Apparently, he didn't work at the university, otherwise, he would have known about the way to pay.

Obviously, he wasn't ;visiting - exiting to go get something - get back and resume visiting: he would have said so. The 5 dollar charge would have been unjustified if that were the case.

Conclusion, he was trying to get free parking. Caught him, good for your colleague!
