Actually that's what I always ask "Are you hiring?"

If they say "We're taking applications", that usually means, "No".
In that case, I take an application anyway, but I usually take my time bringing it back in.
The hotel I work at (Bigger chain then the last one) says that even if we are hiring, we HAVE to say "We're accepting applications." We take applications all throughout the year and put up signs when we really are hiring. Always we have to say "we're accepting" rather then yes or no.

    It kinda sucks. Hard core.

So, obviously chicka here is an ESL. The question is, what was her first language?

    LOLspeak?
ESL is shorthand for "English as a Second Language"

I'm fairly sure Buglady was suggesting that lolspeak WAS her first language.

          "are you hiring?"
          "not you."
One time I had this customer bug me for all kinds of stuff, and then ask me if we're hiring. Seriously, you think I want to work with you?
All places have to be 'accepting applications,' but they aren't always looking for new workers. I try to tell people, when they ask, that we always take apps, but I don't know that we especially need people. I don't want to discourage (good) people from hiring, but I do want to be practical....who wants to waste their time on a place that doesn't need anyone? If my hours are being cut because sales are low, I'm gonna think we don't need people.
I would have just taken their app, called the HR mgr over, and let them talk together. although I agree that this person was being pretty rude and unprofessional.
Before you ask, think about it. Think really hard. I have back, but I don't have any more in the back.

That reminded me of the line in Idiocracy (great Mike Judge, should be required watching for all...Welcome to Costco...I luv you...)...He's talking to doctor, who diagnoses him as being "tarded," and is informed -

Don't worry scrote. There are plenty of 'tards out there living really kick ass lives. My first wife was 'tarded. She's a pilot now.

I think I'll go watch that again...

I'll bet she will be the first person screaming 'discrimination' when she doesn't get a job.
... assuming she can pronounce it... "Yo, dis be blatun' dis-communication!"

Sounds like a lot of those applicants would make a Bronk (or even a Transpop) look like a prime candidate for the job.

When I worked at S-bux, that (sadly) probably would have been one of our better candidates.
