This is only mildly on topic, but you guys might find it funny. My dad is a police officer and when he is off duty, he carries his handgun everywhere. He used to keep it in a fanny pack and one day we were at a dairy queen in Phoenix and this girl working behind the counter asks him what he keeps in his fanny pack. He looked at her in that way he does that can wither any person and says, "Gee, what do you keep in YOUR purse? I'd really LOVE to know." She blushed and left it alone.

Whenever I step up to a counter to pay for something, I am ready to pay and have the proper amount of bills at the ready. I've never understood people who, after ordering something and then being told the amount, go "Oh!" and then pull out their purse/wallet and start digging around as if this where an unexpected development. It must be nice to go around in that kind of fog.

See, I'm kinda OCD with my handbag, and while I have The Bag of Infinite Holding (or so it's been dubbed by my friends) stuffed full of...well...stuff, I always ave my money in two places: a wallet for cash/cards, and a Lifesavers mints pop-tin for coins.

The only real thing I hate about purses is this: women I know call their purse (the thing with a strap they carry on their shoulder) a purse, their wallet inside their purse has been called by women I know as "purse, wallet, coin thingy, the thing, purse thing, money holder, coin purse, 'the you know in my watchamacallet', drivers license, checkbook...." and probably a few others I can't recall. And with the exception of "wallet", none of the other things describe only one item.

It gets really confusing when someone says "get my purse out of the purse" -- or even say "bring me my purse" so you get the purse, then they say "not that purse, this! my wallet!"

It's so much simplier for me.... my wallet is in my front left pocket. That's it. If I have a coat on with pockets that fasten (which is only my winter coat), I might put change in my left pocket in it (or right, depends on if I'm holding somehting). Easy.

hmm; i keep both coins and notes in the same part of my wallet; keeps it simple.. except when i forget i don't have any money

alot of my (older male, especially) customers use coin wallets like this:

            really useful i think ^^
sorry for my horrendous spelling; English is my first language, and I'm not dyslexic. I'm just shite at spelling

I always carry a large bag with me...I like being able to carry anything I *might* need, and have space if I buy something small. My current wallet now is this nice lil' coin purse I bought in a Nepalese store. I can easily find cash and/or cards in it :-)

(and I am bag/purse addict...I have far too many....me thinks I need help)

Actually, I found in my years of retail, guys were more picky about organizing their wallets...reciepts go here, bills here, coins in THIS pocket, keys in THAT one, lol

It really tries my patience when they have to hunt every single tiny pocket in their enormous purse to find a particular credit card, or their driver's license (when they take 10 minutes to look for their license I always feel like saying, "Good thing I'm not a cop, huh? Cops aren't nearly as patient."
What the hell is that anyway? I can't tell you how many times I've needed a woman's id at work (control drug or Sudafed) and they'll whip out a stack that's at least 2 inched thick and have have to sort through it....sometimes to discover that they don't even have their DL.

I carry a larger bag, but not one of the currently chic duffel bag size handbags. It has multiple pockets inside and out, and they are organized consistently the same way; it has to be this way, or I'd spend half my day locating my keys, badge for work, MP3 player, pen, makeup, BART and bus tickets, etc. Also, I pull out my wallet before I get to the register.
I carry a lot of crap in my purse anymore. Let's see....wallet, passport, small notepad, cell phone, AAPT pocket calender, pocket drug book, calculator, various and assorted pens and pencils, hard candy, gum, aspirin, famatodine, antacids, Swiss army knife, protection stones, and sgiah dubh.

But it's still not a huge purse. It's the type that I can wear across my body.

And at any given moment, I know exactly where my DL is and can get it quickly.

The smaller coin bags were always called change purses for me. You have a purse, then you have a change purse.

I don't see the point in keeping your money in all different pockets. Are you waiting for the day where you get a pleasant surprise in the form of money you've forgotten about, or something? Either way, I too just keep a wallet with me and put everything else in my pockets. It's just easier to me that way.
I have a small change purse with a keyring on it that I keep my cash in, as well as change and the check card. It stays with me all day, as I need my keys to be able to get into the locked-up room for the backstock.

Besides, it's easier for me to find my change that way than dig through my purse (and when I'm out, I'm guilty of carrying my purse 99% of the time) and rummage through everything.

Besides, I keep the large wallet for my checkbook and insurance cards. I also carry some spare change in it as well, but hardly have to dig through it.

And I'm the type if I don't put something back in its assigned place, then I can't remember where it is and I'll go into a near panic looking for it.

                    The Return of PURSEZILLA!!! RUN!!!

(or see my other post )

I'm a guy. I have a wallet. It holds about 9 cards: Drivers license, 2 credit cards, debit card, library card, blockbuster card, cheatsheet for work, Employee card for copy center at work and insurance. 10 if you count the Toys R Us giftcard I have in there at the moment. There's one big pocket and that's where the cash goes... IF I carry any. I'm a debit card person, but there may be as much as $20 dollars in there!

And that's it. I don't need anything else. My other cards (like Books a Million and Staples Rewards) are on my keychain. Anything else I need goes in those convenient things called PANTS POCKETS. If I need to carry anything that doesn't fit in my pocket or wallet, I probably don't need to bring it.

Any change in my pockets come from what I have bought that day. At the end of the day, it gets dumped in the fishbowl for Laundry Day, which is the only day I leave the house by ADDING change to my pockets.

In my experience, the terminology goes as follows:

                      - Handbag. A small bag on a shoulder-strap, normally carried by women in lieu of pockets.

                      - Purse. Something primarily designed to carry coins in. May have a small note pocket.

                      - Wallet. Something primarily designed to carry cards (ID or otherwise) and banknotes. May have a small coin pocket.

What I have is both a purse and a wallet at the same time. It has a clasp purse attached to a decent-sized wallet, although you can only sensibly use one at a time. It definitely does not fit the description of a handbag.

                          Me: That'll be £x.xx
Woman gets purse* out of hand bag.
Now if that was me it'd be one of the following:
                          1) Woman opens purse and takes out wallet and removes debit card or cash
                          2) Woman takes wallet out of back pocket and removes debit card or cash
                          3) Woman takes cash out of pocket. Possibly has to check multiple pockets to see which one has the money. (I wear 511 classic pants unless I'm dressing up)

but I understand what you mean. I have two .. oh three purses right now (the third i'm saving for summer) and one of them fairly swallows up everything I put in there so it's bloody hard to find it. The other purse is much easier to use.

in either case i hate the straps tho. Maybe I should start wearing them across my chest instead of over the shoulder. They just don't sit right, especially when I'm wearing a coat.

That sounds like my wallet. Then again I did buy it in the men's section. Girly wallets just don't work well for me. DL, work ID, blockbuster card, subway reward card (two? wtf?) Man I do need to empty this out... Taking out a couple of business cards i don't need. But I'm keeping my japanese train cards, japanese licence, and of course my boyfriend's business card.

My handbag is where I kept my purse, hairbrush, cellphone etc.

My purse is where I keep my coings, notes, credit cards etc.

And this is why I pay with debit

anyone else ever notice that debit is only one letter away from debt!

I think it varies as to what country, or even part of the country, you're in. Here, a purse is a bigger version of a handbag. And my wallet has several credit card-sized slots and places for paper money and coins. That goes in my purse.

That's the type I have. Not only does it seem to distribute the weight a little better, but you don't have to worry about someone trying to grab it.

When I gave her the new Zelda one for CHristmas she started to transfer the stuff over. She had stuff in there like two year old receipts, ID from her High School (she graduated in 02), expired YMCA cards from her old home town 100 miles away, etc. I will NEVER understand why she keeps some of this stuff!
