Last year we replaced the "key" style PINPADS with touch screen pads in preparation for capturing sigs electronically (which never happened).

In two weeks we had one of the self scans PINPADs break when a SC decided not to use his finger or the pen and used aball point pen and hit the screen hard enough to break the pen and crack the screen. Best part he got ink all over his white dress shirt.

I have problems remembering my pin number but i have a good excuse.. I have dyscalcula and i know what the 4 numbers are seperately but i can never remember the order they're in. like if the pin was 2413 I'd put it in as 2134 or 3241.

I too don't sign my cards. I'm perfectly happy to show ID proving its me, but I won't sign my card. As someone else said its too easy to forge a signature. With one of my bank cards my picture is on the card. Good enough for me and everyone that takes the card.

I've noticed that most places don't even bother to check the signature against the card. They will probably check that the card is signed, but not compare it to the receipt. (In any case, by the time you've signed the receipt, the transaction is electronically complete.)

I think what the signature is there for really, is so they can hold it up in court and ask, "Under penalty of perjury, is this your signature?"

They usually say "void or invalid if not signed"

and let's see if I were a criminal would it be easier for me to take the time to learn how to forge your signature, or just take your unsigned card and sign it how I want to-thus ensuring the sigs match?
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

              Exactly.

Makes it all easier for the crook.

As for PIN Pads... I'm too damned stupid to use them, I think. I was at the Dollar Tree today and I was that customer. The one who couldn't figure out which one was yes or no. When I started, there was no line...in the oh extra 20 seconds it took me to figure out where I was being a dumbass, it grew and grew. I seriously felt like the biggest moron.

It all started out simple enough "slide card"..then it asked "do you want cash back yes/no?" I asked her where the yes (even though I NEVER get cash back) button was and for some stupid reason, pressed it. I don't know why. Then it said "accept 1 dollar fee?" ...At some point, my brain must have just escaped through my ear. Had to start all over, ya know...and seriously, it held the people behind me up less than half a minute before the brain clicked back on.

But really, they are ALL different! Honest!

I'm surprised the cashier didn't slap me.
you are = you're. not "your".

I have "Please Check ID" on my credit cards as well. About 10 years ago someone stole my wallet (out of the back room of a business while I was working) and had to cancel and replace everything. The police found the wallet 4 months later after the snow melted, dumped by the road a few miles out of town, and luckily the only thing missing was the cash I had (which wasn't much). After that, I was playing it safe.

I also have to admit that I turned into a bit of an SC because of it. After that, whenever I would use my card and the clerk didn't check the signature line (just scan and hand back), I would ask why they didn't check. When they said they did check, I asked them to compare the signatures again... and later explain as to why I have the note on my card. For the last year or two I haven't had to do that.
