Oh boy, the last couple of days have been <sarcasm> FUN </sarcasm>. We were oddly busy yesterday, and today with the next door Circuit City closing, we got LOTS of overflow traffic. Anyway, on with the suckage.
Crazy Cat Man
There's this guy who comes in ALL the time. I call him Crazy Cat Man (CCM) because he's takes pictures of his cat playing with various dolls and toys he gets at garage sales, types up (in a typewriter) stories to go with the pictures, then cuts and pastes together little 'newsletters' that he copies on his color printer/copier and gives to anyone who will take one.
Needless to say he uses a LOT of ink. He owns THREE PSC's (Printer/Copier/Scanners) but I don't think he has a computer. He just uses them to print from his digicam and copy the fliers. Since he uses a lot of ink, he recycles a lot too.
At Staples we give a $3 credit back for recycling ink (up to 3 a day). We're chaning it so you can recycle only 10 cartridges a month. I told him this and he went batshit ballistic at me. Like it's MY fault. Turns out he actually can turn in 20 a month, since he's a Premier Rewards member. Maybe next time we'll tell him, but damn, Crazy Cat man never gets THAT upset!
Returns
Today was a bigger return day than the day after Xmas. Most of them had receipts and were with the return period, but a few were MONTHS old. I seriously haven't dealt with as many returns as I did today.
We did have a couple of people denied returns:
- A camera that was bought the day after Thanksgiving that they only 'just' tried to use (nearly a month after Xmas? You didn't try a BRAND NEW CAMERA on Xmas? Yeah, right).
- HP ink cartridges. Ink we normally don't take back after 14 days. This guy didn't have a receipt and I checked the date on the cartridges. October 2007. The ink cartridges are usually dated 1 to 1.5 YEARS after we carry them. (for example, a new cartridge now may have a June 2010 date). So he bought these cartridges sometimes in 2006. Nope, not taking back a 3 year old cartridge.
- At least two people who wanted to do returns without boxes. One without a receipt. How the heck do you expect to get money back when you don't have the whole thing or proof you even bought it from me in the last decade?
- Copy paper. Now copy paper usually isn't an issue. First, it's got STAPLES written all over it and second we give an unlimited time for returns on our brand stuff... WITH a receipt. Of course this guy had none. He was talking fast, didn't have the covers for two boxes and just wanted credit. Without a receipt we have to take a bunch of drivers license info. So I got his ID and typed it in and the system came up "THIS RETURN IS DENIED!" Woo woo! I told him and he took his paper and left. Supposedly the other manager did a return a couple of days ago for 3 more cases. Our system flags recent returns. HA HA!
