A long time ago (I was 18), Sears didn't take Visa or Mastercard...they ONLY took the Sears card. That really fucked the paint sales guy when me and my boyfriend at the time had three gallons of paint mixed and painting supplies ready to purchase and my boyfriend pulled out his Visa and the sales guy said they don't take it. He asked if the b/f had a Sears card and he didn't. Asked if he wanted to sign up for one...he didn't. We left that paint and the supplies sitting there in front of the sales guy who had a dumbfounded look on his face.

We had never heard of such a thing...no Visa? Wow.

      SAMS Club's don't do they?
Actually, it's Costco that doesn't. They won't take discover, either. Only AMEX.

SAMS club used to only take Discover and SAMS credit, then they started to Allow Mastercard. But as I haven't set foot in a store in about 6mo-1yr, I just didn't know if they started allowing visa or what t

SC: HEY YOU F-IN (store name) WORKER!!!!!
And that would have been my cue to call security! Ass. Anyone calls me a name like that, and I'm done helping them.

An easy way out of that would be to say "Oops.. I thought he said AMex. My bad." I don't think anywhere in the Western Hemisphere takes AMex anymore.
Huh? You mean American Express, right? As far as I know, just about everyone here does take it. I know where I work does.

Man, finding a place that takes Amex in Alberta's like finding a nugget of gold in a metric ton of elephant dung. You might do it, and by the time you do it, it might be worth it, but *man* there's a lot of crap.

I was in a Harris Teeter store the other day that had a sign saying they no longer accepted American Express cards. When I asked about it, I was told American Express had increased the rates they charge the stores, and so the store decided to stop taking their credit card.

Huh. Maybe it's US thing? I would say at least 1/3 of the CC transactions I do everyday at work are AMEX. Hmmmm....

We stopped taking AmEx where I work (prepaid cellular phone call center) because we kept losing money to people who would dispute the charge with AmEx who would always side with the customer and never second guess them.

I found that out back in the early 90s when I was doing some Christmas shopping. I think they told me the took Sears and Discover, but nothing else. I was shocked. I thought everyone who took credit cards took Visa and Mastercard.

I guess they realized they were missing out on a lot of sales, because eventually they did start taking them.

The delicate art of SC deception is something that needs to be developed carefully over time. (Watch a politician some time for an example)
Instead of outright lies it is much better to plead ignorance and take your own sweet time finding out the correct answer.
"Visa? I'm not quite sure about that, let me go ask someone."
(there is no limit as to WHEN you'll be back with the answer)
"Salt? let's see that used to be on 9..."
EWs are pretty easy to drive to distraction in subtle ways that don't get you in to trouble. What's the a**hat going to tell your manager? "He didn't know where the salt is!"
These EWs have already made up their minds

                        *snip*

SC: Do you take Visa here?
RW: No, I do not take Visa. But I know a couple hookers down the road that do. That's what you wanted to know outta me, right? Because, you DID call me "F-IN" so I kinda thought so.

The one in Asheville and the one in Gainsville takes only Discover cards and debit cards. I don't know about the others, since I've only been in the two.
