Today, a customer came up to the service desk wanting to cash a handwritten payroll check. I couldn't remember if we accepted them or not so I checked with the FEM who told the customer that we didn't.
The customer said that she'd been able to cash that kind of check before. The FEM mentioned that whoever did that could get in serious trouble and that there were auditors in the store at the time.
The Store Director also told the customer that it was company policy not to accept handwritten checks. She even told the customer that if she did it for her, she'd have to do it for everyone. The customer was given the option of going to the bank to have it cashed which she argued about first with the FEM and then the Store Director. The customer ended up leaving without the check being cashed.
