Ummm... And how would the typical layman, someone who is not actively in college or involved in college courses know that? Short answer = They wouldn't.
Except this parent WAS actively involved. Also, the system's been around literally hundreds of years. English != English Lit. Chemistry != Biochemistry. Stuff like this is talked about in movies "Yeah, my stats class is killer," so it's made it's way in to the popular consciousness. That and the fact the course numbers were different, MATH/STATS aside. And I don't recall anyone saying "She sucks for not knowing the difference," however, she does suck for insisting they were the same, and for thinking Lupo should have known what the kid actually needed.

But not being actively involved in college courses doesn't really get a free pass of "Well you should have known," or I'll have to PSYCH 101 you.

By any chance, is this lady like Hispanic? Not that it has anything to do with she being a prick about the books, but the fact she used the word "mijo" confirms it.

If I knew I was right all along, I would not have put up with that treatment.

My god Lupo...I would have told her off in Act II...so much better then I.

I be she (and others like her) is why the student book store where Mom goes to class doesn't allow students/parents to touch the books and absoluty has to have the class list in order for someone to pick up books.

Wow Lupo! I would have lost it way before you did. for not killing anyone! Me thinks you should start getting prizes for not killing your customers. Or at least throwing books at them.

            That's what I keep saying!!

But no one listens. And thus, no prizes for Lupo.

It'd be nice to have prizes. <sniffles>

            So, Mr. I-Get-PTO-and-Lupo-Doesn't-So-She-Has-To-Strangle-You-Still...

            How's the vacation...?

and in answer to an earlier question, yes, she was Hispanic, but aside from the use of mijo, it didn't really have any bearing on the story, at least I didn't think so.

It's been good! Been staying busy! Today I was driving around the southwest freeway area giving BFF (thought it was better than BF ) a ride so he can finalize the paperwork for <new job> But sadly I will return to work soon! I went in today to pickup my paychecks and everyone kept asking how my vaca was and that they want me back. I'm glad I'm one of the fav FES's! Makes the job less sucky when the people your in charge of both like and respect you!

Me: Well, ma'am, I've already explained that-
HM: Shut up! I'm not done!
                Me:
**RW: (having been sitting nearby reading the opened text books Lupo was forced to take back) *Stand up, in full Nun's Habit, and smacks a long flat ruler on the counter* PAT ATTENTION! I don't give a flying fig WHO you are! You and your son WILL give Miss Lupo the CORRECT information or I WILL bring upon your head 2,000 years worth of Righteous Anger. Now, you will be polite and correct your appalling behaviour and your problems will be solved. Or we can do it the hard way. Take your pick, lady.

One of my friends worked a semester at the book store. On move in weekend he said it seem like so many parents were hovering and whining about the lines.

I only took my mom with me to buy books once. It was before I had a CC and the first batch of checks the bank sent me were missing account numbers and names so my mom tagged along to pay.

We wanted laundry done? Do it. I swear, the number of guys who showed up at the dorms without a fucking clue how to operate the laundry machines was staggering to me, as I had been doing laundry since I was at least twelve.
Tell me about it. One of my old roommates was telling us about how he had no clue what he was doing the first time he tried to do laundry. Seems he ruined his clothes by cramming them all into the machine, regardless of color, and then proceeded to dump detergent and bleach directly on them. (Cringe)

I did that with some of my black shirts. I got this totally awesome brown-black tie-dye effect. Loved it.

My red shirts came out orange somehow.

And the blue shirt came out with white spots (Sorry, EQ, that was your shirt, too. )

Kudos to you for not laying a beatdown on HM

I totally feel for you. Part of me can't believe people can suck so bad, yet, unfortunately, there are lots of proof around us that they really can (but sometimes you have to sit back and think about the nice customers, and the warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you help someone out who deserves it).

Anyway, the fact that she kept cutting you off and telling you to "shut up!", that's a total deal-breaker for me, and I am pretty sure that I would have said something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, but this is a place of business and, if you cannot keep this on a professional level, then I'm going to have to ask you to leave." I'm sure I wouldn't be able to recite that out very clearly or smoothly under the circumstances, but that's how I roll. :P

I totally agree that HM is a big control freak to the nth degree. Her son is probably too scared sh**less to stand up for himself, since he most likely has been emasculated by his mother. Freud would have a field day with this one.

And what the f*** are managers/supervisors for if they can't handle volatile situations like this? That's why they get paid more (albeit not much more sometimes). And really, the people on the front lines should not have to put up with such bullsh**. Granted I don't think passing the buck is the best solution, but sometimes customers get worked up over one particular employee and, they're so wound up that they can't see a train coming at them, let alone reason and common sense and decency (am I missing anything?). So, I think the manager's role is to try and diffuse the situation and to stick up for fellow coworkers.

Anyway, just my two cents. I'm glad to hear you were able to decompress with cider and cheesecake.

I think I would have blown up on her. You have a lot of patience. I probably would have gotten into trouble and mouthed off. That is NOT okay on her part. I don't get why she thought it was okay to act like this. She made a huge ass out of herself. What a bitch.

My black zip-up sweatshirt has pink spots on it that must've come from bleach or something else that takes color out of clothes.
