  • Computer game store woes... Three Quickies

Note these are a bit dated... they are from the time I occasionally worked in a small computer games shop, when I still was a student. *starts feeling really really old*

There are no dumb questions... but there is a lot of inquisitive idiots

(Kid (about 16)) *holds out a box of the game 'Take down' to me* "This a Tae Kwon Do game, right?"
Umm... does the fact that the cover art consists of Wrestlers suggest a thing?

    Umm... what?

(SC) "I'd like to order 'The Bard's Tale III' for the Amiga"
(me) "Erm... I'm sorry; it is announced, but not out yet. As of now, we have got no release date."
(SC) "Never mind, just sell me a cracked copy."

Sure, we all just copy them anyway.

(SC) "Whoa, these games sure are expensive. Could you, like, just copy <Title> for me? Here, I even brought blank disks..."
    I still miss my ex.
But my aim is getting better.

Oh wow, for the Amiga? That was a while ago! Good to know some things never change, though. "Gimme a copy." "It's not out." "Gimme an illegal copy." *facepalm*

      Here's your bootleg copy, sir.
*Hands idiot blank disk with game title in sharpie*
If you have any problems with this game, please report us to the authorities.
Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?

A bit dated? That's like saying the Israelis and Palestinians have minor disagreements or that the economy is experiencing a few, slight hiccups!

Damn! I remember playing Bard's Tale on my Apple 2E and having a zillion floppy disks laying around.

It's almost comforting to know that no matter how much time has passed, the SCs never change.

I find it more depressing than comforting, personally...

One answer to both questions: "You're an idiot."

tho the SCs don't like being told the truth

Yeah. I played it on my good old reliable C64. Those were the days...

Hey, at least you're not like those people who work in video games stores where they actually get idiot customers asking for Mario and Zelda games for the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.

I guess it's comforting in a "You can always count on SCs to act in a certain way" - I prefer the evil I know to the evil I don't!

I'm sure they're lovely, very youthful looking wrinkles! (And you look very dignified with your walker!)

OT: I played the original Zelda on the NES "way back when" - and I was able to beat it (both quests) after many hours of playing. Of course, I played it over and over a few times, and I was able to get to the point of completing the first quest in a single afternoon, on the days my folks went to work .

Anyway, I've played Zelda on every platform Nintendo has (I'm playing Twilight Princess on Wii right now) and while I do find them quite challenging, I pull out the original NES Zelda and compared to the current Zelda, it's HARD!!!

Ok, now back to fighting the forces of Twilight

Heck I still get people on a regular basis coming into my store looking for games and controllers for the ORIGINAL NES! Sorry folks, we stopped carrying them in 1996.
