We have 3 floors of computers. On the first and third floor you log in yourself, but on the second floor, where we have computers for job searching, the patron has to go to the librarian. There are two terminals in closed rooms and 2 terminals out in the open.
WE have to use the librarian's terminals to log in. Now most librarians will get the library card number and either ask for the password or ask the patron to type in the password.
Usually I type in the number and get the patron to type in the password but sometimes the patron has their number memorize so I just turn the keyboard and have the patron type in the id number and password.
I have a regular who comes in a lot. so far she seems ok. She asks for my input on how to word a sentence or should she subtract something.
I don't think I ever logged her in but I helped her a lot.
She came in today. She tells me she wants number 4. Now I forget which computer is which; the ones outside the special rooms might be 3 and 4 or 2 and 3. I turn the keyboard for her to type in her number.
she said, "I never had to type it in before".
she says, "3 isn't on." I told her I put her on 4. She says there is no 4 and she didn't tell me she wanted 4.
So I had to log her out, which is a problem, and she starts about how she never had problems in other states' libraries and we give the worst service. She obviously forgotten all the help I gave her andextra time my coworkers gave her.
I had to have her log in again and she said, "why don't you do your job and do it yourself....forget it, I'm leaving...." and she goes.
