I wasn't supposed to work today, but a CW called in sick. I had these wonderful examples of humanity grace me with their presence.

I had a SC that ranted about the price of our diapers being so high (they are the cheap, crappy kind and are priced accordingly). She then called her one-year-old daughter the n-word and ranted about how expensive the little n-word was.

Creepy Man and Weird Lady came in today. Creepy Man had to tell me all about his toothache and how it gave him problems when he preformed (way too much info) on/with his female companion. Weird Lady just came in, stank up the store, and left without buying anything.

There is a carton of lighters on the table where the register is. I had a parent that sat her baby (older than six months, younger than a year), on the register table and hand the child a lighter from the display carton. Thankfully one of my co-workers got to her before I did.

And you weren't even supposed to be there!

How on earth does lighter = toy safe for baby? Unless the parent was related to the woman in the first tale and wanted to kill the child....

You have these idiots who before having kids, thinks it's the most lovely thing in the world & when they do have kids & reality sets in then get resentfull for the work & money they didn't realize it took to raise their little darling.
I would have told that lady in the 1st story.."well, I guess you won't be having any more kids then, right?"

I desperately hope that Diaper Lady was just having a frustrated moment. A lot of parents aren't really prepared for children, even if planned, and the reality of the responsibility, costs, and work involved can get overwhelming. If that's the case, I can kind of forgive an outburst like that, though I feel some sort of talking-to might be in order.

Unfortunately, I've had to deal with too many people for whom a child is little more than an inconvenient accident (because papa couldn't be bothered to wear a rubber), or worse - a child represents nothing more than a larger welfare check. I fear that diaper lady falls into one of those last two categories.

          God, I hope I'm wrong.

maybe her stinky body is what infected his mouth?

and ... handing a lighter to a child? makes you wish a cop was there... cos in many states the laws regarding cigarettes also cover lighters. (yes I got carded while buying a lighter once, it was funny)
