  • First general annoyances

    This are just some that have happened from September to about nowish.

    This is one that happened around the time I was made a Shift supervisor at my current "popular coffee shop". I've worked here for about a year by this point now.

    It's the start of my training for supervisor. I'm with my boss who is training me.

    Me=
    B- Boss
    SC = as usual

    I'm waiting for the safe to open so that I can figure out how to operate the inside door, and the precautions that I have to take since one of the doors sticks and will set of the alarm to the Police if not closed properly. My boss is talking to me about other things I have to do like the deposit, the coin exchange, making sure I have all the drop bags etc.

    The safe area is at the end of the counter, and is open so that we have access for doing buses and helping Customers with coffee selection to keep them out of the way of the main line.

    Boss is talking to me

    SC: I want some coffee.
    Me: Um, okay, looks at the time left on the count down to open the safe what kind are you looking for?
    B goes to help out with the line up since it takes roughly 10 minutes for the safe to open
    SC: I want coffee.
    Me: But what kind are you looking for? We have mild, medium, bold and extra bold.
    SC: I don't fuckin' care, I just want some god damn coffee.
    Me: Please do not take that tone with me, if you continue to use such language I will ask you to leave.
    SC: Gets snooty and demands to talk to my superior, apparently I'm not knowledgeable enough.
    B: What's up?
    SC: This stupid employee is asking to many damn questions.
    My boss is an ex-marine. He doesn't take crap from anyone, and he hates mistreatment of his employees
    B: looks annoyed Well sir, to help you find what your looking for, we ask questions to make sure you walk out the door with exactly what you want.
    SC: Why can't you just make fucking coffee like "Another oddly popular coffee shop across Canada"?
    B: Well, we like to give variety
    SC: Fine thispicks up the mild and throws it at me
    B: Sir. If you do not respect my employees or me, I will have you band from this store.
    SC: I'm a paying customer! I demand proper respect!
    B: You want respect, you better damn well earn your fucking respect, now leave.

    SC then left without his coffee and I haven't seen him since.
    B however was pissed that people seem to want respect, but can't seem to understand that it's a two way street.

    And my last one since this is already long. It didn't happen while I was at work, but at another one of the stores in the chain.

    Me=
    SC= moron
    SS= Nice Shift.

    I was with my parents in the bookstore that normally accompanies coffe shops, they were paying for the books and I was going to get them a treat for coming up to visit me.
    I'm standing in line (the line is huge, but I know that these people know how to move fast) and I get this tap on my shoulder
    SC: Excuse me, but aren't you a "Coffee Shop" employee??
    Me: (I'm a little surprised this person remember me, as I don't remember them) Uh yeah. But this isn't my home store.
    SC: Well don't you think it's prudent that you go behind the counter and help them?
    Me: this isn't my home store and no. it wouldn't, it would cause chaos.
    SC: Well I don't want to have to wait in this damn line. Go make me my drink! You have to, it's part of the policy!
    Me: No I don't. And no it's not. (And I turn back around to await my turn pretty irritated. I deal with enough idiots, I don't want to deal with them on my day off)

    SC starts to yell at me how disrespectful I am, and that when the line is long I should get my ass behind the counter and do the work that they pay me to do. They really really liked to point out how they were paying my wages.
    The shift at this store remembers me from when I helped covered a couple of their shifts and comes over to make sure everything is alright.

    SS: looks at me first with concerned look Is everything all right?
    SC: No everything is NOT all right! This moron wont get her ass back in there so that I can get my drink!!
    Me: Looks at ss with apologetic look, I know that this is not something someone wants to deal with while there is a huge line up
    SS: Sir, just because you know that she's an employee of the chain, does not mean she works here. Now you either calm down and start behaving properly, or I will have security escort you out.

    By this time my parents show up, my mom goes to hand me some money because that's just what she does. And the SC just FLIPS out on my mom for "butting in", and "raising a brat" etc. etc.
    My mom is not someone you make angry. I know, I've done it. She just glares at the guy and tells him that if he thinks twice about how he's acting, he would realize that he's pulling a tantrum like a 4 year old. My dad is standing behind her and also glaring, and he's over 6', and is very intimidating, specially since my entire family is martial arts trained.
    My dad tells him, not ask, tells him that he will be leaving with him and security now. And if he ever talks back to me that way again, he personally will deal with him. This shuts the little shit up, and he leaves with security escorting him out.
    The rest of my day went fantastically! I didn't really get mad about it. It was just some pompous ass who thought things should go his way. I just felt bad for the SS who had to deal with that and the line up. Oh well, c'est la vie.

    Sheesh, how entitled can an SC possibly be??? Apparently this guy just seems to think you're a coffee-making robot who does not deserve the luxury of free time like the rest of humanity. People like that really tick me off!!!

      Story #1- I would love to have a supervisor like that!

      Story #2- What a colossal a$$hole! Methinks he must step away from the crack pipe.

        Cool shift, which I was also lucky to always have during my green apron days. But watch out. Corprorate ALWAYS takes the side of the SCs.
        I will never go to school!
