    It's either that or we charge by the hour. In some cases that would result in a lower charge, but in most cases it would be MUCH more expensive for the customer.

    And again, "random acts of kindness" aren't profitable.

    Though he got one anyway, because we didn't charge for reinstalling the video driver.

      I still use a parallel port printer, and 95% of our non-networked printers at work are connected by parrallel due to issues with our needed software and it's issues printing over USB. The new office-level (a couple thousand each) HP b/w laserjets all have connectors for it. The ones we order do, at least.

      Oh, and dot matrix is still very alive and well thanks to carbon-copy forms. You need a physical strike to transfer to the carbon paper. I see this a lot in various offices.
