Wow. I'd never leave one of my friends hanging like that. I'd be a tad annoyed but I'd definitely be there to pick them up instead of letting them go to jail. I've helped friends of friends with car troubles, even. I cannot understand the lack of helpfulness. My instant reaction to a request from help is "yes".

Question: How many times will you do it to the point within your limits? If any?

My thinking is those two friends prolly got tired of her calling at 2 AM or so wanting a ride every time she's drunk or is in jail (if she's been in it before) needing a bail out.

So if this is the case, I can't say I blame them for being fed up.

Hrmm. Good point. Though I don't think I would stay "friends" with somebody who did that more than a handful of times. At some point, you cut people out of your life.

As has been pointed out several times already, there's many places where simply being that drunk and in public is illegal.

In Saudi Arabia, Iran? Maybe. Surely not the land of the free?

Either way, would it be a "calling 911" offense? Emergencies are for threat to life, not public drunkeness.

I think we've had enough discussion on whether her public drunkenness was illegal or not.

The OP said he didn't know whether she was actually driving herself or not when he called the police.
Why take the risk that she is, and then potentially have her wipe out some innocent person who is simply on their way home?

As for me, I'm just glad that dispatch didn't hang up on you and assume it was a crank phone call, since all you did was dial and hope they would realize the possibly barely audible conversation was your way of telling them to get their butts over there.

I wouldn't want to go to Jail if I was drunk and simply had been f*cked over by a guy who was meant to be giving me a ride home... these things happen.

However I also wouldn't pull a fainting fit. I would ask- nicely- if the police officer could drop me back at my apartment instead.

Ree posted this 3 hours before the above post. That was plenty of time to notice it. If people are going to insist on debating things they've been told not to, they'll have to do it not here. Sorry Yizuman, and to everyone who was posting properly.
